Leica FOTOS 2.0: Seamless. Instant. Everywhere.

Wetzlar, 21 November 2019. With the release of the latest version of Leica FOTOS, Leica photographers can integrate their daily workflow even more effectively into their mobile iOS or Android devices. The handling of the app is highly intuitive, very convenient and fast – from connecting to the camera via WLAN or Bluetooth® (if available), capturing images and transferring files, to mobile digital postprocessing and sharing the finished results in social media. In direct comparison with the previous version, the loading speed until the gallery is displayed and the data transfer rate when downloading images have been doubled and the stability of the connection between the devices has been significantly improved.

The new version of the Leica FOTOS App is available as two different options: Free and Pro. While the Free option is still offered free-of-charge for iPhone and Android smartphones, photographers wishing to use the Pro option must take out a paid subscription. In return for this, it offers users a number of extremely useful additional functions. These include the support of DNG RAW files, the use of video mode or the seamless integration of Adobe Lightroom into the workflow. The Pro option is also available for use with Apple iPads.

Leica FOTOS (free option):

  • Available for Apple iPhone and Android smartphones
  • Leica Account (required): Connect with the Leica community
  • Image viewing: viewing of images on the high-resolution screen of the mobile device, including display of exposure data (e.g. for the assessment of sharpness or detail resolution)
  • Image transfer: pictures in JPG format can now be transferred from the camera to the mobile device at up to twice the previous speed
  • Remote camera control: Change settings, compose and capture pictures. Ideal for shooting from unusual angles or when the camera is out of reach
  • Settings: all the camera’s relevant exposure parameters such as ISO, exposure compensation, shutter speed or metering mode can be set from the app
  • Postprocessing: pictures can either be shared in social networks and/or post processed in any one of a number of popular apps. Optional saving to a dedicated Leica Album.

Leica FOTOS Pro, incl. Leica FOTOS for iPad:

  • Paid subscription required
  • Available for Apple iPhone, iPad and Android smartphones
  • Made for iPad: All current iPadOS functions are supported to ensure an even smoother workflow (e.g. Split-View, Drag & Drop)
  • Leica Account (required): Connect with the Leica community
  • All functions of the free version: All features and functions of the free option are also included in the Pro version
  • Adobe Lightroom integration (iOS/iPadOS): Post processing is now easier than ever before: With a light tap on the discreet, but constantly visible, Lightroom logo, the selected image is opened in the Lightroom Develop window for processing, or in the Lightroom Library view if several images are selected.
  • RAW file transfer: in addition to JPGs, image data in DNG RAW format can also be transferred from the camera to the mobile device to maximise the reserves available for postprocessing
  • Video mode: the camera’s video mode can also be remotely controlled from the app. As well as almost all camera settings, this also includes the filming process itself – the mobile device becomes an off-camera monitor and, as such, is a very useful tool. For technical reasons, wireless transfer of video data to a mobile device is not yet implemented.

Currently, Leica FOTOS currently supports the following cameras: Leica S (Typ 007), Leica SL/SL2, Leica M10, Leica M10-P, Leica M10-D, Leica Q/Q2, Leica TL/TL2, Leica CL, Leica C-Lux, Leica D-Lux and Leica V-Lux. Further camera models will be added in the near future.

Leica FOTOS (Version 2.0) is available from today from the Apple App Store and Google Play. Leica FOTOS 2.0 replaces all previously released, camera specific Leica Apps.
