It began happening with my 1957 Summicron 50mm. Shooting for some time in bright sunlight would appear to "overwhelm" the viewfinder. I would focus and nothing in the viewfinder would move, even though the lens was indeed focusing. Turning the camera off and back on fixed this, for a time.

Then, just recently, I bought a used Tri-Elmar 28-35-50, version 2. I've been shooting test shots of the same scene with all 3 focal lengths. 28 and 35 are always fine, but sometimes 50 is lighter and has what I call "light flare."

FYI: The 50mm Summicron is not 6-bit coded, and I shoot it with Lens Detection OFF. The Sri-Elmar is 6-bit coded, and I have been shooting it with Lens Detection ON.

Has anyone else had either of these things happen?

I use MATE (Tri-Elmar-M 28-35-50 ) for years, now my wife use it.

At 50mm, my copy flares a lot when strong light is just outside the frame.

But in this case my Summicron 50mm ( I, II, III, V ) can flare alsoin contre-jour situation.
