james.liam Posted November 14, 2019 Share #1  Posted November 14, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I've only used medium yellow in the past for my lower-contrast lenses (50 Rigid, Canon LTM). I've been lent a very late German 75 Summilux for some portraiture in B&W using my Monochrom, and probably an M6 too. Is the light yellow a better choice or is it too light to offer anything change in contrast or skin tone? (Really beautiful and easy to focus lens compared to my 75 Summicron APO, BTW. I now understand what people here were waxing poetic about all this time...)
Advertisement Posted November 14, 2019 Posted November 14, 2019 Hi james.liam, Take a look here Yellow filters for B&W photography; query. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted November 14, 2019 Share #2  Posted November 14, 2019 In general, I am pleased with middle yellow on the MM1 for landscape and general photography. Sometimes, for drama, I will switch to orange. For portraits I would advise a green filter to smooth out blemishes and veins,  for "craggy" potraits you can use a red filter to enhance all characterful facial features
a.noctilux Posted November 14, 2019 Share #3 Â Posted November 14, 2019 (edited) Finding the right diameter filter E60 for Summilux-M 75mm is a challenge by itself. Maybe it's easier now than some years ago. I'd use it as such without filter to appreciate the lens "as is" ( nude ! ) ... In my photos, the subtle differenciation of colors from Noctilux 1.0 or Summilux 75 still "seen" (in shades of gray ! ) in my Monochrom's files. Or if you can find Green or Yellow-Green for portrait may answer. Edited November 14, 2019 by a.noctilux
james.liam Posted November 14, 2019 Author Share #4 Â Posted November 14, 2019 Looks like the green & yellow/green aren't readily available in 60mm
jaapv Posted November 14, 2019 Share #5 Â Posted November 14, 2019 You'll have to look for Lee filters. They do offer yellow-green and probably the right adaptor too.

250swb Posted November 15, 2019 Share #9  Posted November 15, 2019 Or use a commonly available 62mm filter with a 60mm to 62mm step up ring.

That was what I've done, but no way to extend the hood and screw-in hood 62mm hides too much the 75mm framelines in viewfinder.
AceVentura1986 Posted November 15, 2019 Share #11  Posted November 15, 2019 On my M9M, I’ve found that the yellow is too light whereas the red is too strong, except for landscapes. Orange, however, is the Goldilocks of filters, at least IMHO. I keep one mounted on my 50 Summicron and one on my 35 Nokton.

But thanks for the tip! Just bought it.
