Hi everyone!

This is my first post and I'm an absolute newbie when it comes to Leica M, I've being wanting to shoot with rangefinders for years and finally saved enough to get the M10! After reading hundreds of threads I decided to get the Voigtlander 35mm Ultron and have shoot with it the first time today. Was tossing between the Ultron and the legendary summicron but ended with this due to limited budget. I'm pretty happy with the results. The lens seems quiet sharp (but once again I'm only a noob so dont really know better) What do you guys think!?

Edit: It seems like I can only upload one picture at a time, is there a way to upload more?

Edit 2: Does anyone mind sharing your lightroom export setting to meet the upload requirement of 500mb? I'm currently using long edge 2048 pixels and 80 pixels by inch with limit to 450Mb ticked

Nice images! While there can be subtle image differences with a Summicron, I don't think it would result in better pictures. My "Leica trained" hands prefer the handling of the small Leica lenses, but that's just personal preference.

I once bought a Voigtlander 35 f1.4 Nokton, and loved it. Never noticed a problem in the pictures I took with it. The sharpness compared well with the 35 Summicron I used since 1970. Then read comments in the reviews and forums about what terrible focus shift it had when stopping down, so I did careful testing and found that indeed the sharpest focus plane would shift to the rear as the lens stopped down. So I immediately got concerned and started trying other lenses for comparison. A Zeiss 35 had no noticeable focus shift, and in pixel peeping was clearly sharper than the Nokton and my old Summicron, but was larger than I like. So I ended up with a Summarit 35 f2.5 which is now my favorite lens.

If I hadn't read the forums and reviews I'd still be just as happy with the Voigtlander Nokton. So save lots of money and just enjoy your lens, and ignore the comments in forums (including mine).

The Ultron you bought is no slouch and of a more modern design than the Summicron. It's not a 'compromise' lens by any measure but outstanding in its own right. As TomB-tx notes, the image differences are subtle and related more to the color rendition than anything else. It's going to be just as sharp, likely without the focus shift seen with the 35 Summicron ASPH.

Its only true competitors are the slower 35 Summarit and Zeiss ZM 35C, both superior to the Summicron in many ways (flatter field, no appreciable focus shift).

Thanks guys for your comments! I'm really loving this lens especially after today's shoot of my dog. The colour looks natural and the bokeh looks nice wide open. I think I'll stick to this lens for a long time. Should I get the lens hood as well? Is there any advantage of it?

Thank you for those pictures, great lens for a great price.

I wonder if the Ultron 1.7 has the same great performance and if its worth for the one stop more.. comes with the price of much more weight and scale.

Here is LTM and VM versions of it. I had LTM and it never gave me something nervous in bokeh as in images above. But maybe I biased :)

Tried the sunset today and I like the looks of it. Never really feel the need for the extra stop of light for my uses.

How do you define "vintage looks"? Seems pretty sharp and contrasty to me. Great clarity.
