Thanks for sharing. I am particulary interested in the 70-200 2.8 plus 2x TC combo.

Can you share some insights on focusing and maybe some 100% crops?

Thanks

Daniel

I had that combo for a few days and it’s not comparable to 90-280 in terms of IQ. While the 70-200 f2.8 by itself without the TC is exceptional in IQ.. anyway, that is just my opinion from my tests.. 😌

SL2 + Sigma (MC-21 + 150-600)

With only AFs to work with, I couldn't quite get a sharper image but managed an average shot of the action..

Late this afternoon I received the new Sigma 65mm f2 DG DN L mount lens to try out. I managed to get a few shots of one of my cats just as the light was fading.

First impressions- it feels extremely well made and very solid. I love the fact that it has an aperture ring!

It comes with a ribbed metal lens hood, plastic lens cap as well as a magnetic metal lens cap. I've become a big fan of the Sigma L mount lenses, IQ & handling is very, very good.

I agree with that, without a teleconverter is a stellar lens and with 1.4 tele almost no loss in autofocus speed and resolution. With the 2.0 it depends of the circumstances. Its unavoidable you loss resolution and speed but with some post processing you can get pretty reasonable result. The reason i have chosen this combo is its flexibility. You can use it as a 200, 280 and a 400. Its defently not on par with the 90-280. But at a different price and I want the 400 option instead of 280.

Yeah I agree with you too! 70-200 with 2x TC is better than Sigma 100-400 any day as well.. so, to get to 400 in full frame I would also have gone with the 2x TC but I was able to return the 70-200 f2.8 I had and also sold the Canon 400 f4 DO IS.. replaced those with the 90-280 because I found a good deal on a brand new one.. I am ok with 420mm in APS-C mode at 20MP.. SL2 isn't going to be great for birding anyway..

Reasons to choose 90-280 over 70-200 for me were:
- lack of BBF in 70-200 (shutter button would also engage focus and I don't want that.. )
- not enough power issue with 70-200

- 80mm additional reach with the same lens
