A tender lily in square format - SL 2 and Canon Macro 180 mm. First one natural background, second one softened. I would really like to have a L alliance Macro with a focal length of 150 mm or more, but it seems nothing is in the pipeline with such a focal length. Therefore I have to use my Canon 180 mm plus adapter. The lens is excellent, but nevertheless I would prefer a native lens.

Have you worked with the S lenses at 120 (apo macro) or 180?  How do they differ from this?

No, I own regarding macrolenses for SL only the followings:  Canon MP-E 65 - a very special lens, the, Canon Macro 100 mm and Canon Macro 180 mm and the L 60 mm APS-C lens from Leica, which I use on my CL too. This lens is a good performer on the SL 2 although resolution is reduced. But the stabilisation is a win. Only the focal length is too low for some purposes. The Canon lenses cannot  be used in a sensful manner with the CL, because the aperture cannot be changed - it is always wide open, when using a thumb adapter.  The Novoflex and the Sigma adapters cannot be uses with the CL, only with the SL and the SL 2 - which is a pity.

Fair enough.  You really know the Canon lenses and they seem to be meeting your needs nicely.  The S120 macro is my favorite.  With the S to L Leica adapter it can be used on the SL and SL2 but not on a CL.  I've posted this elsewhere, but here is an example:

R lenses, ranging up to the 100 macro can be used on both SL and CL, so if you had that one, and the CL2 comes along someday with IBIS and 36 MPx, you would have your 150mm with high resolution and stabilization.

Leica SL2 with 90mm Apo SL. I must say it sucks having to convert to jpeg and downsizing. This website ruined my image.
