Were you so close, or is it cropped, and if yes, how much ?

Since my first crop trials with SL2 and 90-280 (very convincing in landscape), I hesitate to sell my m4/3 gear (G9, 100-400, 200 + 2x) which I use only for wildlife, but I fear missing some resolution if cropping to over 600 mm eq. (< 8-10 mp).

In an other hand, I would benefit from better low light perf.

Your thought ?

I was approx. 18m -20m away. In situations with animals with cubs I will never get closer than that. There's a comfort zone for the animals, any closer and they'll run away. they're very skittish and also very vulnerable at this age.

About 25% of the image was cropped= what I've ended up with is approx 75% of the original. One major benefits of the 47MP sensor is the ability to crop without losing resolution. The low light performance of the SL2 is really excellent. These images were taken after sunset on a grey cloudy early evening, light was flat.  ISO400 f6.3 @ 1/100s 280mm hand held from my Land Rover.

With birds I use my Canon 400mm, the 90-280 is generally just too short, and even copping in tight with the 280mm I'm not entirely happy in low light situations. I'll post some comparisons when I'm back home over the weekend.

Tonight's colors... Once again very red. No color tweaking, all sliders except contrast / exposure to 0. SL2, VE 90-280, ISO 400 1/30th f:4.0, handheld (!!). Have a great week-end!

With SVE 11-23-TL at 12mm.  The shot was badly underexposed and thus noisy when pushed but it cleaned up nicely in Topaz-Denoise.

.... and it will soon be bigger than him.

We have had 2 Bernese in the past and it was like living with a lion in the house .... although more affectionate and less dangerous..... lovely dogs.

This dog is just 6 months old.  She has exhausting levels of energy but, already, when she says, "Play!" the response is OK.
