The FP-L has replaced a Ricoh GRiii as my business travel cam. Hugely enjoy using it with the smallish Sigma primes.

FpL most definitely feels like the poor relation when it comes to L mount Love... well it gets plenty from me, it's a quirky little beast for sure, I've been trying to get to like the EVF-11, it's a work in progress but I'm still sure Sigma were capable of better, design and function wise.  Anyway.. just ranting for no reason, especially as there are very few visitors to this part of the forum - talk to the wall Jayne!! 😃FpL with Sig 100-400

Jane those are spectacular images!
I recently purchased the FPL and a few sigma lenses. I love the size of the sigma camera and the contemporary lenses, they are as nice to use as my M lenses. I’m doing my best to avoid the EVF that was the reason for purchasing the Sigma lenses. I’ve already installed a flip up screen and am waiting for a new grip that holds a battery that should last about 3 times as long as the original one. As a long time Leica user I’m really enjoying this quirky little camera.

all the best

Thank you Allan, happy to hear I'm not the only one enjoying the FpL, and I agree the Sigma Contemporary lenses are just a perfect fit for it.

I really don't like the EVF, but sometimes it feels like a necessary evil.. if I had your flip screen, which I'm too nervous to attempt to fit myself, it would definitely stay home more often, though as it is it rarely leaves the house.   I would be interested to know if the touch screen operation give you any problems now, I know the only issue I have heard of is the image doesn't flip, but I'm sure I could live with that.  I have a handy son whose built a few computers in his time, I'm sure it's something I could get him to do for me and I think mine is out of warranty so probably not an issue there.

I can understand your decision to go with the grip too, I just have the smaller sigma grip and usually a pocket full of batteries, they are the same ones I use in the CL so I have plenty around.

Happy shooting with your kit.. look forward to seeing some images.

All the best ... Jayne

Hi Jane…. Everything on the  screen works perfectly including “touch” . Turn camera from landscape to portrait the image turns according. The screen hood is very useful as well. Easy to you when needed. The whole rig is made of carbon fibre so it is very strong and light. I was very hesitant in doing this mod myself but after watching the YouTube video a few times I was confident I was capable of preforming this myself. I am sure your son or even a shop that repairs screens on phones and iPads would have no trouble doing the mod. Everything was included except the rubbing alcohol used you dissolve the glue that holds the screen in place.
The flip screen is very robust and I have no hesitation taking it out with me all the time. For me it turns it into a different more enjoyable camera experience . It’s like shooting with a Hasselblad or Rolleiflex.
This is my replacement for the CL.

I’ve also added a red shutter button to the “on - off” switch and I honed down the edge of the top wheel as I found both were very sharp and uncomfortable to use. The Niceyrig grip is much better than the sigma one for me. I’m expecting any day now to receive a new grip that holds a Sony battery that is supposed increase battery usage about 3x longer.

all the best Allan

you can see the video on YouTube. Darkpower laboratory is the name of the company.

I hope Sigma notices all the modifications and additions to the FP cameras by third parties and brings out another model that is better from a functional as well as ergonomic point of view.
I really like the image quality...

It is such an easy change at very little cost.

Sigma prices are lower than Leica´s, that could be true. But "very little costs"? The add-on of Darkpower is a DIY item, without any guarantee!

Their loupe - a relatively primitive item - is not cheap.

Hi Jankap,

In Canada the FPL body cost $3200.00 the add ons amounted to an additional $ 600.00.The cost of a Q3 $8000.00 an M11 body $12,000.00. The only cameras I’ve had to send in for warranty repairs were my M9 and M240. I still own my original Q and it’s still working as new.  The latest (and last) accessory I added is a grip that holds a much larger battery. I have just returned from a trip to the west coast of Canada. (Tofino) . I used the FPL at a wedding on a beach, whale watching in the Pacific ocean in an open boat, and walking around the town. Over three days I shot 540 DNG’s using just one battery! For me this is impressive. Interestingly, the photographer at the wedding was using a pair of Nikons and was using her flip screen as much as her view finder. Should Leica ever bring out an interchangeable body around the size of the Q I’d be standing in line to purchase one. The Sigma is quirky and probably not for most people but so far I’m enjoying the quality of the files and the build of the camera. Some might feel it doesn’t offer enough technology and has too many downsides. For me personally, the flip screen and battery grip make this one of the easiest cameras to use that I’ve ever owned.
