I just pulled myself together and got myself a nice tripod. Should have done it looong time ago, but I have stubbornly been fooling around and travelled as light as possible. I am just becoming familiar with the gear, trying it on the gravel road that leads to our local train station (iso 100, f5,6, 30 sec.)

Nice shot.  The path leads to Orion.  A nice tripod is worth the extra expence.  If I add up all I paid for lesser tripods that were unsatisfactory it would be more than the Gitzo I eventually bought.  Should have just it the bullet and got it first.

So what was your exposure data?  Must have been fairly long as I see the stars are small trails, but they are sharp.  I have coma problems when I shoot at wide or near wide open.

Thanks! Exposure time is 30 sec on both images above. Resp f5,6 and 7,0. I have read about the coma-issue, but I don't really know what it is. Will try to increase iso up to at least 640 at next occasion.

Btw, as mentioned, I'm new to Lightroom. When exporting images I only get the option "large" or "small" jpg, and the small is way smaller than the 2,4 MB allowed for this webpage. Does it matter? The images look way sharper/more crisp on my screen (as always ;))

(The tripod I bought was a Leofoto Poseidon. Only because it was 30% off at my local store. Good first impression, solid and a good feel).

😋 no I am just a big fan of Star Trek and the light met my expectation.
so as I am pushing around the photons, that are grabbed by the camera, I am introducing something that wasn’t there and grabbing it at the same time.
reminds me of my first print.

But very nice that you noticed the reference and pointed out the plot of Star Trek.

By the way it will all and in darkness….

🤣

My goal for this life is to bring light to earth ….
i cannot say how much photography means to me.
the first time I saw an image develope infront of me it was pure fascination and love for the art.
now I am adding things to images that people know and like to take ….

Thanks.  The one I posted the other day was ISO 800, f2.0, 4 sec.  Coma is apparent in the corners.  The Q2 is a great camera but not designed for everything.  I think the coma shows up more due to the 47MP when zoomed to 1:1.  i have not seen any astro work on the Q.  It would be interesting since the lens is supposedly the same.

You should be able to set any resolution you choose to in Lightroom.  I have numerous presets for different outputs depending on what they are intended for.  For the Forum I set it to Long Edge being 2480.  Look up a good tutorial for exporting from Lightroom and it should answer your questions.  Here is a short video that explains some of the settings.  I am sure there are more involved ones out there, but this can get you started:

Which Lightroom?  If using the "Classic" desktop version -- the one with all the features -- you can chose any export size you like.  You do not have to pick one of the Lightroom provided presets.  Make your own.  Example:  This profile limits image size to 2000 pixels on the long edge and file size to 2 MB.
