Why? This is exactly what one sees in Venice — plenty of sea or lagoon. That‘s one reason why I like the picture: the feeling of being there.

Personal choice of course, I too like the idea of the 16:9 crop which was my immediate thought when I first looked at it. I would have the horizon run along the middle of the crop, however. Too much dead space for my taste. If the OP likes it as it is, that is also good.
