Any idea (speculation ) what long elevated ridge on the left edge is all about?  Looks rather unsightly and not clear what purpose it serves

interesting comment on one of the Japanese blogs talking about SL2 pricing

ライカストアスタッフさんによると、フジGFX50シリーズが発売された時、ライカSLの売り上げに影響が有りましたと伺いました。

>> According to Leica Store staff, when the Fuji GFX50 series was released, sales of Leica SL were affected.

Which doesn't make it more attractive. Speaking as an M and CL fan... ;)

Is that the old one or the supposedly new one............they look the same to me?

Seems like it's a new design for the rubber cover for the ports on the side. It looks more robust and will probably be easier to open. I'm not sure if I think it's a good idea with that design, but we will have to wait and see how it feels like when handling the camera.

I found that the four large, unmarked buttons next to the LCD screen of the SL just slowed me down as I would sometimes hit them inadvertently with my nose.

The bottom right button cycles through the displays with different information on them. It is convenient to reach while the eye is at the EVF. I use it to see the histogram, then adjust the EC dial, then clear out the histogram and perhaps use the level.

If pics are real, it seems that smaller M lenses would not appear as dwarfed by the body, which has less free space between top of lens and logo/top plate.  Not clear if height is reduced, or merely different design cues, but it surely seems more compact top to bottom.

The design, again if real, curiously shows a more squared off edge on the side opposite grip than the current body, which appears to have a rounder front contour. This is counter to some interpretations from Dr. K’s ‘more elegant’ description that a more rounded shape would follow.  Of course one person’s elegant is not necessarily another’s.  To me, the X1D design is elegant. This seems more old school, but perhaps more ergonomic than the current shape.  All speculation and entertainment at this stage.

It seems to have the same button count in the back as Q2. Which is quite low for a professional camera.

It should have a D-pad in addition to joystick.

Because toggling between screens will be difficult without central button D-pad. Of course you can click the joystick. But it serves a better purpose as a back focus button or as a manual focus magnifier button.

Navigating inside the menu, is easier with a D-pad.

I think it will have IBIS. Just like Q2 gives us everything we asked for : weathersealing, bigger battery, better EVF, higher MP count, etc... Leica is just in generosity phase in 2019

To sum up :

- a visually smaller body. Thanks to design tricks. But it retains 98% of SL size. All buttons, switch, dials and joystick have the same size as before.

- seems like Leica gave up unibody aluminium. Just like the Q2, I bet the SL will be 100% magnesium. Hence the rounder body.

- 47MP Same sensor as Q2 and S1R

- bigger rear screen. I guess it is a 3.2” one.

- CL & Q2 three buttons user interface. Which is nice for using different Leica cameras. Sadly M10 has a different layout with LV on top, instead of PLAY. And with PLAY in the middle instead of FN. It proves slightly difficult to switch between M10 and CL or Q2 for that reason. M11 should have this order PLAY, LV, MENU.

- no more sharp edges. Say hello to round curves.

- still ugly. Actually less attractive than industrious SL design.

- Cine mode. Same video capabilities as Lumix S1R ? That would be awesome.

Still unknown :

- IBIS. Taking into account that Q2 have OIS and S1R incorporates IBIS. It will be hard for a 47MP SL2 to sell without such technology.

- GPS window, top case button layout and top screen are still unseen.

- I/O ports are still unknown : 2 SD UHS II slots ? full size HDMI ? Mic and headphones jacks ? USB C in body charging ?

- still same BP-SCL4 battery as SL and Q2 ? I really hope it still be there.

- will it use the same 5MP OLED EVF as S1R and A7R IV ?

- availability and price. I hope for less than 6,600€ inc. VAT. Not more please. Q2 is 20% more expansive than lowest Q price. 5,500€ with tax was the lowest non discounted price for SL. Add 20%, you get 6,600€ VAT in.
