Thank you, Roberto, and this example was included in the list seen in post #69.

Out of interest where did you acquire the hot-shoe cover? Is it 'the original' as included with the camera or something you found from a 3rd party provider?

Philip.

Hello Pippy, it is actually a thomb support from Thomb up, bought just after the M-D in 2016

Ah! Yes; I now see there is a bit more to the item than I had noticed at first.

Thanks for the reply, Roberto!

Philip.

Dear All, my MD262's sn.: 4987596. I am the third owner of the camera and it moved from Denmark to Hungary in a really nice condition. I wonder if the first owner who bought the camera is a member of the forum? Who knows...

Great, this cameras can be an investment, by the way, how many auctions had this MD shutter?

Is there a procedure to reliably find out the number of pictures taken?

Added ’reliably’ to emphasis on that guesses from filenames can be manipulated.

Congrats on the new M-D. It's not one I've seen before. (I have a list of about 130 M-Ds)

The M-D seems to reset filenames after 10000. Some say it does not appear to increment the folder number (I've not hit 10000 myself yet)

If you put a new card in, the camera remembers the number and keeps counting with the new card, so I am not aware of it being able to be manipulated.

Basically, if your filename is 3000 then the camera could have taken 3000, or 13000, or 23000 shots etc.

Thank you Datsch,

my camera has at least two former owners, one in Italy and the previous here in Sweden. It was at L1001195.DNG for my first capture.

I expected it to have been used more, s/n 4983030.

Some corner brassing, as it should be. A case from ClassicCases Scotland, a bit thick to hold but gives a secure grip with the Thumbs Up.

Yes, I saw it was for sale at Fotodotti in Modena in September 2021. Nice case!

Of course the current theory is that it could have 1,195 shots or perhaps 11,195 or 21,195 etc. we just don't know. I'm sure it has many many more intersting pictures to take in its lifetime though!

Yes, my previous M was M8 that I got 2010.

I expect the M-D to be with me for at least as long. Unless it’s collectors value will get me a M10M…

I agree with Datsch; nice case!

I don't really like cases in use but for transportation they can be useful. I'm abroad and without my laptop ATM but will have a good look at their site when I get home. A case might be worth having after all!

This is still correct as far as I know.

The (apparent!) fact that the folder number doesn'r roll-over is a little bit of a PITA. I've just come back from a few days away and, for my system, needed to renumber 250-odd DNG files to ensure there could not be any possibility of the new ones over-writing previously shot frames. In my case, having gone into the 10,000+ bracket, the allocated L1002345 (or whatever) file-name / number becomes MD L1012345.

Cutting'n'pasting MD L101 over the existing L100 does take a bit of time; in my case the 250+ frames took 15 mins. to re-name. My own approach to the tedium is to equate it with the time it takes to load and process some 35mm film...

The case is a tight fit, some friction even to remove the camera (it is not using the tripod mount). Handmade of high quality.

When I get to that stage I will be using the Multi-rename Tool in Total Commander which is my favourite file manager. It offers among many other things find and replace within filenames. Maybe worth a look?

Thanks for the suggestion, Datsch; I will definitely have a look at the program.

As well as the files from the M-D there were some 200+ files from the trip which were shot on the Monochrom and these also had to be renamed. Renaming 450-odd files is sort-of tolerable (in terms of time-spent) but the experience of renaming a few thousand frames from longer trips is not something which could be described as being pleasureable...

Philip.
