Thanks, so far I've found the following, serial numbers with location (not necessarily the location sold in)

4982424 austria
4982426 singapore...

Just googled the same question regarding production numbers and found this thread.

I picked up an ex-shop-demo example just this week. Only 140 clicks(!) and, as you might imagine, in mint condition with all the usual acc's and boxes.

Interesting to see the early numbers here (along with Nigel G's 4982410). My example is 4982421. Bought in London - which means that (when members answered) 2421 (mine) turned up in London; 2424 turned up in Austria; 2426 turned up in Singapore and 2410 turned up in the Cotswolds. Or, possibly, London. Or, as it might have been, NYC...

I wonder if these were all from the first batch sent out to dealerships around the globe? Any numbers earlier than Nigel's known?

Strange scattering of units if they were all procured in the territories to which they had originally been delivered.

Philip.

Just to confuse your exploration of the numbering/geography - although I bought my 4982410 in London it was as far as I can recall from the paperwork in the box actually supplied to Leica Singapore in the first instance. Can't check I'm afraid as I "downgraded" or maybe "retro-graded" to the M Edition 60 🙂

Thanks for the additional info, Nigel! These M-D's certainly get to see the world!

So now as well as having a camera with no screen you now have a camera with no strap-lugs?!?! Donning the hair-shirt will be the next step in your journey...

Very best of good fortune with the Edition 60, Nigel, and I'm absolutely certain you wil appreciate her to the fullest. May you share a great many experiences and memories together!

Philip.

So it continues to appear that the highest batch so far known (purely from the numbers published here) would be the 51504XX series.

Copying and pasting from another thread re: M-D 262 production numbers posted here;

"The following is going to be 100% pure unadulterated speculation but bear with me; if the cameras were made in batches of 100 we can see that one batch might be running from 49824xx. The next batch (200 cameras?) would appear to be numbered 49875xx and 49876xx. Then 49986xx and so on (*).

If we extrapolate this to its conclusion then, based on the numbers here, there might be around 700 bodies worldwide..."

(*)...to the end of the list in post #7 on the previous page

MD-262, serial number 4998696 purchased in USA

Curious! 4998695 has been noted (post #7) as being in Japan.

What method did Lieca use to distribute bodies? Because according to serial numbers there's no rhyme nor reason to any 'pattern' as far as I can detect.
