I was just wondering if the lens was wide open as per the thread title, Keith?

Pete.

Well, that was certainly my intention Pete, but I do see why you ask.  It was raining and miserable so perhaps in my haste the aperture ring was nudged.  This one I'm reasonably certain was f1.

many people slam leica for their flaring lenses but i also kind of like it

I could clearly see it flaring as I was composing the shot and actually moved to position the curve of the light in the frame. There was extremely bright sunlight coming through a window in front of her and I shot a bunch of pictures with the highlights intentionally blown out and with flare in the frame as a compositional element. In my other use of this lens, I have not found flare to be an impedance or even something I’ve come across unless I’ve directly shot into sunlight. It’s fun using flare as a compositional tool and have it be so controllable.
