Bud,

I've found over the years that the trick to nailing focus wide open on my Noctilux with the rangefinder is simply to practise.  If I haven't used it for a while I find that it takes a few shots before I'm instinctively nailing focus wide open and I haven't found that with any of my Summiluxes.  The following shots are with my 50/1 Noctilux v4.

Here is a constructed example to show that while the rangefinder gets pretty close, under extreme circumstances (e.g. close to minimum focusing distance, man made patterns) the EVF is more predictable. Two images are no 'proof' of anything but match my real world experience with the 50mm f/0.95 over several years. This is with the 75mm f/1.25 which I received today - which has an even narrower in focus area compared to the 50mm (both shot on M10M, full image, no crop, no sharpening tricks):

1. Attemped focus with rangefinder on the publishers' logo. Missed by a sliver, focus is oh so slightly more towards the back (higher up in the image, book is slightly skewed):

2. Using EVF020 is most of the time more reliable than auto-focus on most cameras with similar optics (e.g. Canon 85mm f/1.2 has about same hit/miss ratio when shot on AF). Focus is as intended:

I don't doubt that the Visoflex 020 EVF (or perhaps the Visoflex 2 EVF now) will more reliably hit focus with a Noctilux but, as shown through the photos I posted earlier in the thread, I rarely find sufficient time to compose in the EVF, magnify, adjust focus, 'zoom out', recompose, and shoot before the moment I wanted to capture has disappeared.  If the time is available, for example, shooting static subjects then it makes sense to use the EVF.  Usually I don't have that 'luxury'. 🙂

Pete.

M11+Noctilux 0.95/50. Old Delhi. The temperature was 47 degrees C. Trust me to choose the hottest day to go out with the camera.
