This picture is taken 1,3m from subject. 

The out of focus “bokeh” becomes very creamy where background subject almost disappears. General focus distance 1-1,5m

2-4 meter focus distance equals to “dreamy look”

5-7meter blur but can see subjects 

 

obviously distance to background subject from focus point also has a role to play.  

But general great role of thumb 🔴
