I have had the problem that it won't let me turn it off if it is jumping around from lens to lens. I have a Canon FD to leica screw  mt then a screw to M adapter and finally the Leica M to L adapter. Some times it is fine others the lens is trying to associate itself and literally is jumping from lens to lens, when I try to turn off the lens association it won't let me, because it is trying to find the lens. My two solutions are to turn it off before I place the FD lens on, or to get a dedicated Canon FD to L adapter.

that's pretty much the same as me

Any 50mm Summicron or Summarit lens should perform brilliantly. Don't spurn older versions. They just perform differently and are sought after, hence their prices have been rising rather than declining.

You didn't specify what you were looking for other than a 50 so I will give the whole spectrum of the ones I have tried:

- Leica 50mm f2.8 Elmar - tiny, collapsible (but don't collapse all the way when mounted on CL), sharp, not expensive

- Minolta 50/1,4 MD mount

- Canon 50/1.2 LTM - biggish, heavy, classic old glow wide open, contrasty and sharper from f2.8

- Oh heck, since you didn't put a price or weight restriction: Leica 50/1 Noctilux v3

I’ve been able to take a few snaps with the Voigtlander 50mm.  I think I’m going to like it.  It seems very well made, hefty, very smooth focus ring, etc.  It’s quite sharp even wide open but the colors don’t seem to pop as much as with the Leica lenses.

I read your comment with enough interest to make me want to look for colour differences.   I have the CV 40mm 1.2, and the Summilux 50 1.4 so thought I would put it to the test and because I have always thought the Voigtlander images had every bit as much colour pop and contrast, and certainly plenty of sharpness.  Just snapped these quickly - obviously I kept the  Voigtlander at 1.4 - minimum focus distance of the lens made it possible to frame pretty much the same, all just imported to Lightroom, used embedded profile then just saved as small jpegs to place side by side in photoshop.  Goodness me, I must need something to do today lol!   Should say - shot on the CL obviously, no in camera settings changed between shots.

If there is a difference it is minute, and obviously all can be changed in edit.  Enough play - need to do some work!   Will put the 4 shots in larger resolution on my Flickr stream if it's of interest.

Thanks for taking the time to do this comparison!  To my eyes, the color in the shots taken with the Voigtländer look a teeny bit warmer. I’d be happy with either. They’re certainly not lacking anything.

Sample shots from Minolta MD 50mm f1.4. Stacked adapters MD to M (leica made these) and M to L. Balances fine. This lens can be had around $50-100. Mighty fine bokeh and old school sharpness.

Lovely and the wonder that is mirrorless and the CL, loads of choice and beautiful enjoyable bargains to be found.

Hi Folks,

I'm on "Round 2" of the 7a 55mm f1.4 L-mount version and this time I think I got a good copy.  The lens appears to behave well on the CL body except that you need to use the up arrow to digitally zoom in to get a focus.  Aperture settings at any f-stop larger than f2 are very dicey handheld but overall, considering the price, ($149.), it's a reasonable alternative to more pricey optics.

Some examples from my 55 7A, the blue flowers are at f1.4 the pink at f2.8. The f2.8 seems very nice while the f1.4 is meh. It does get dicey setting smaller f stops, there is no f11 on the f stop ring.

I bought a used VM 50/1.2 a few weeks ago.  Nailing focus wide open is a challenge.  But I really like the lens.
