But I must say after having the camera for a month I have no other complaints I would just would like to use the GPS feature. Brings back to mind the M10 with the GPS add on never worked for me and I returned the EVF which was needed for this functionality. Reply from Leica this morning as below: "Many thanks for your feedback. The Leica Camera AG is working intensively to develop the described GPS feature. In order to deliver also here an exzellent user experience, a further delay might occur.Unfortunately, we can not provide you with an concrete date for implementation. We are sorry for the inconvenience!" It has bricked my camera a couple of times requiring the removal of my battery to reset. GPS does not seem to be working. Not sure what the low power Bluetooth is doing. App is very slow. Not sure why Leica released it with all of the problems. In the German forum, Krusty summarized BT operation as follows: a) Waking up the camera b) Transfer GPS data (once implemented) c) Establish a WiFi connection to transfer images I only need b). I am patient.
Saulitude Posted April 6, 2019 Share #44 Posted April 6, 2019 I have just enabled the connection between my brand new Q2 and Fotos. It works correctly. However I would have been pleased to get an option to use Q2 while connected to get GPS data from my iPhone... André

It will be added at a later stage.
rfunnell Posted April 6, 2019 Share #46 Posted April 6, 2019 So will WIFI be used to transfer images and Bluetooth for the GPS data ? Was the new Bluetooth solution to decrease battery discharge and be more efficient at transferring images any one have any idea.
T.J. Posted April 6, 2019 Share #47 Posted April 6, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’m leaving on a trip next week and was looking forward to geotagging my Q2 images. Guess that’s not going to happen. Leica should have made it clear that was not part of the April 3 release.
4peterse Posted April 6, 2019 Author Share #48 Posted April 6, 2019 Geotagging with Lightroom is quite easy. You can use your phone to record the track and then import the track with Lightroom. I'm more disappointed that you can't use the app to properly remote release the camere, e.g. in "T" mode.

To record GPS tracks with your iPhone you can use any app that is able to produce GPX files. I'm using https://trails.io/en/ (really good: you don't need to upload anything to any cloud, it's all local on your iPhone; you can, of course, upload to Dropbox or other services, if you like) or https://www.komoot.com but there are probably hundreds of other apps. (NOTE: I'm not affiliated with any of these apps) As an example: with Trails, you export directly from your iPhone, and you can, for example, AirDrop to your Mac. With Komoot, you need to download the GPX file from their website. With the GPX file on your Mac, you can import it in Lightroom: 1. Switch to "Map" module in Lightroom 2. Load the Tracklog (the GPX file) Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! 3. SrMi Posted April 8, 2019 Share #52 Posted April 8, 2019 When collecting GPS data externally (e.g. via phone app), it is important to have the correct time/date set in camera. Leica Fotos app apparently sets the correct time automatically.

SonomaBear Posted April 17, 2019 Share #54 Posted April 17, 2019 (edited) I carry a GPS unit when shooting with the Q in remote areas. Very important lesson: Our phones get their fastest GPS data from the cell towers or active WiFi link. Phones often get nothing when truly out in the field! Most of my iPhone pictures from the remote areas do not have any GPS data in EXIF. The Canon GP-E2 will automatically geotag images created on my EOS R Mirrorless when it is attached. But you also can turn it on to "LOG" mode and attach it to a camera bag. Set and forget for the entire day. Then export the current file, convert it to GPX, import it into Lightroom's Map. This way I geotag all images from my Leica Q, Canon EOS R, iPhone, and those shot by others! UPDATED! The iPhone does have "real" GPS but is very slow in obtaining enough satellite signals to get a fix on position. The cellular part of iPhone assists the GPS - this is called "Assisted GPS". Here's an article to explain this further: https://www.macworld.com/article/1159528/how-iphone-location-works.html "Apple uses AGPS for native GPS-lock improvements, and Wi-Fi network and cell tower locations are additional factors in providing a fast initial connection along with improving GPS accuracy." 4peterse Posted April 18, 2019 Author Share #55 Posted April 18, 2019 Good that you updated your post. Modern smartphones have GPS, GLONASS and Galileo (and QZSS - whatever that is) sensors. No need for a separate device. Most even have a barometer to improve measuring altitude.

Stephen_C Posted April 20, 2019 Share #58 Posted April 20, 2019 It was originally advertised as permitting remote control of the camera from the phone (which could be useful if, for example, the camera is on a tripod a short distance away) and, more significantly, for allowing geotagging of camera images. However, currently: the app is extremely flakey and appears to require access to the camera's Wi-Fi network in order to work (which hammers the camera battery); geotagging is not yet available and, indeed, it's now unclear whether geotagging will take place "in camera" or will require transfer first of the image files to the phone. What was originally discussed was use of Bluetooth for (presumably) both remote control and geotagging. If that were the case it should result in much less demand being made on the camera battery. However, if geotagging is linked to transfer of the photos to the phone then, in my mind, that makes geotagging much less attractive.
