I usually carry a Gitzo traveler tripod and like using it. It gives me more freedom and reliable technique when needing slow shutter speeds. I know plenty of folks who abhor using a tripod and use your method. Whatever works!

I say this somewhat in jest - I only do this when carrying a tripod is too inconvenient, but for anything serious, I'm using a tripod - and I have way too many!!! 😁 I'm the opposite - I abhor not using a tripod - what's the point of awesome resolution only to zoom in and see blur! We are in violent agreement. I am a bit of a pixel peeper for my own photos. I abhor poor IQ. I quickly delete the images even though I realize there may be other uses with programs such as ones that convert to watercolors or oil paintings. Not for me. bullmoon Posted July 7, 2019 Share #147 Posted July 7, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have received both the Leica and Lim's cases. I got the tan Leica and the dark brown Lim's. The Leica case is very nicely made and rigid similar to the Q 1/2 case. The Lim's is much softer but fits well - the access to battery and card is really handy, but it adds at least 1/4 inch to the depth of the camera, possibly due to the integrated plate. The Leica is slightly less thick on the bottom. Having an integrated Arca plate as well as easy bottom access should be really handy as I am a fan of tripods for longer exposures. The Lim's also has a centered tripod screw hole for using without Arca heads. I don't care so much about the hand grip, which is almost identical in size/shape to the Leica add-on grip, but oddly without the texture. I never felt the need for a grip on on the Q and I don't for the Q2 either. The weight of the Lim's is negligible for me and barely weighs more than the Leica case. That said, I like the rigid feel of the Leica case and it's more full coverage of the metal parts of the body. Having to remove it for card/battery access is not so handy, but also not unlike removing the cover of an M6 to change film - it's not so bad. Tripod use with the Leica might be possible by removing the screw and threading a plate through it, but the plate would have to have a long enough screw - have not tested. But tripod use won't be as simple as with the Lim's. The tan color looks nice (for now) but is a bit light and I'll probably return it and get a black case whenever they become available while I use the Lim's. Maybe I'll decide Lim's is all I need. My old Q case works, but is not so easy to remove and slightly covers the thumb wheel.
bullmoon Posted July 8, 2019 Share #148 Posted July 8, 2019 One thing I have noticed about the LIM's case that I don't care for is that the case comes very close to the "directional pad" on the right side, making it sometimes awkward to operate. Maybe not a deal breaker, but not so great either - what a shame on a case that otherwise seems really handy.
Trankster Posted July 8, 2019 Share #149 Posted July 8, 2019 I found the Leica protector 1/2 case to be quite heavy when added to the heft of the Q2. And, removing the case to change batteries and access the SD card, it was not for me. Returned mine.
Trankster Posted July 9, 2019 Share #150 Posted July 9, 2019 I found the Leica protector 1/2 case to be quite heavy when added to the heft of the Q2. And, removing the case to change batteries and access the SD card, it was not for me. Returned mine. I purchased this one on Amazon. Leica Q2 Camera Case, BolinUS Handmade Genuine Real Leather Half Camera Case Bag Cover for Leica Q2 Camera Bottom Opening Version + Hand Strap (Black) I had a similar case for my Fujifilm x100f and it served me well for over two years. It also comes in 5 colors.
Giguchan Posted July 9, 2019 Share #151 Posted July 9, 2019 Finally! I received notice that my ADM for the Q2 should be here on Thurs/Fri... I asked if they would throw in a Q2 because the case was kinda Pricey. *click*
pharyngula Posted July 10, 2019 Share #152 Posted July 10, 2019 I was going to get the LIM's case but in the end decided that the Leica grip for Q2 plus rubber finger loop is enough for me. True, not much protection but my preferred way of shooting is to carry the camera in a small Patagonia sling bag over my shoulder for quick swing-around access and hand-held walking about. Part of me wants to keep my Q2 pristine but I want to have it with me and ready to go without broadcasting camera - it will probably be a relief to get my first scratch so I can dwell on shooting vs. defense....

Please do post pics. Easy to shrink photos if you use LR or with Apple just sending them in an email gives you the option to downsize. What case, material, color, grip did you get? Giguchan Posted July 13, 2019 Share #158 Posted July 13, 2019 Hey Bags!! Thanks for the information... I should be up your way tomorrow.. I'm going to try to make the Kite Festival tomorrow at Brenton beach.
Leica Guy Posted July 13, 2019 Share #159 Posted July 13, 2019 Kites are very cool. I used to fly them and enjoyed the hobby. Not for over a decade now. I once flew a 9’ Revolution 4-string stunt kite off the great wall of China and in Tiananmen Square in Beijing. Great fun.
