perilrobot Posted March 17, 2019 Share #1 Posted March 17, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm looking for a basic UV filter for a Leica Q to protect the lens. I've previously used this with seems to be a favorable choice: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/756810-REG/B_W_66_1066103_49mm_XS_Pro_NANO_Clear.html Leica seems to make their own filter since I've last looked. Does anyone know if there some advantage/disadvantage to Leica's filter? https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1204607-REG/leica_13035_e49_uva_ii_filter.html

microview Posted March 17, 2019 Share #3 Posted March 17, 2019 (edited) Well, if it's just to protect lens why not purchase inexpensive filter but unscrew for shooting? I didn't like (or use) the hood/cap with Q. Ffordes had some coloured glass B&Ws for as little as £10 recently. LexS Posted March 18, 2019 Share #4 Posted March 18, 2019 I have the B+W, not very expensive and impossible to see the difference when on or off. I leave it on always.
jon m Posted March 18, 2019 Share #5 Posted March 18, 2019 Any thoughts on the UV-Haze filer versus just Clear?
jaapv Posted March 18, 2019 Share #6 Posted March 18, 2019 For protecting you should get a proper protective filter like B+W 007. Thinner thus (even) less aberrations, stronger, nanocoating for less flare and easy cleaning.
SrMi Posted March 18, 2019 Share #7 Posted March 18, 2019 Advertisement (gone after registration) Lensrentals has an article that compares transmission of several protective filters: https://www.lensrentals.com/blog/2017/06/the-comprehensive-ranking-of-the-major-uv-filters-on-the-market/ Leica's UVA II fares quite well.
