If it is the rubber cap made for the rectangular lens shade on the 35/2 Asph v1 and 28/2,8 Asph v1, two dealers told me this month that it is not made by Leica anymore.

Hope it is not true. These are quite recent lenses.

Does anyone know where I can get the plastic lens cap for my 35mm Summicron f2.0 ASPH, not the latest one?

Lens cap: 14038
Hood cap: 14043
For the first version of both Summicron 35/2 asph (11879, 11882) and Elmarit 28/2.8 asph (11606, 11666) sharing the same rectangular plastic accessory hood (12526).

14043 is a hood cap.

What I'm looking for is the oblong 14043 cap that fits over the end of the lens hood. I've been looking online and they've disappeared from the UK, America and many other places. I'm waiting for a possible reply from a Polish shop. They probably speak better English than I do Polish.

The hood cap at about £30 has always been the most expensive bit of rubber known to mankind. If it is no longer available to buy new, its value can only increase. If true it also very remiss of Leica not to ensure spare availability for this easily lost item. This is a very popular lens that was still being sold new a couple of years ago.

A quick search around the online dealers seems to confirm that this part (and the hood itself) has been discontinued (apparently as of September this year). Pretty piss poor service (again) from Leica here IMO in not ensuring sufficient spares after discontinuation of the lens. Worth bearing in mind if you are relying on Leica to supply parts or service for other recently discontinued products you may have – e.g. the M7.

After I was fleeced £25 for one of these caps a few years ago, I no longer bother with the rectangular plastic hood. The rubber cap was very cleverly designed to be a "Gillette" item and be easy to lose, generating large revenues for Leica.

I use a 12585 hood on my 35 Summicron ASPH and don't bother with a cap at all. If I did want to put a cap on it, one of the bog standard 39mm ones does the job just fine. If you are prepared to use eBay, you can find such a hood for not much more money that the small square of rubber.

So it is the hood cap you are after. It is hard to find alone but it is still available together with the 12526 hood apparently (links). My 14043 hood cap remained in the lens box as did my other ones but i've been using hoods w/o caps for 30+ years to be honest. The 12524 hood for 35/2 v4 had no hood cap from scratch and i never missed one since the eighties i must say. YMMV.

I second LCT, as hood cap looser for so many times (some five 14043 hood's  caps lost in use😵, when I had Summicron 35mm asph. ).

So now, I don't have Cron 35 asph. anymore and use on my other 35mm or other lenses vented hoods ( screw-in or 12504, 12585, 12538, some with E52 clip-on caps if need be).
