tomasis7 Posted May 18, 2020 Share #121 Posted May 18, 2020 Advertisement (gone after registration) using max size of viewfinder of the leica, you can use 25-28mm. Shoot 21mm and see in LCD screen for approx guess? By that way you learn to add "visual" borders in the body viewfinder while anticipating a scene. When you practice enough, you eventually learn it. Advertisement Posted May 18, 2020 Posted May 18, 2020 Hi tomasis7, Take a look here Voigtländer Ultron 35/2 and Color-Skopar 21mm f/3.5. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
rsolomon Posted May 18, 2020 Share #122 Posted May 18, 2020 Agree with lct. Additionally I need the level provided in the EVF (240). For this singular issue I went with the 24 and loving it. For me the 24 was simpler, which means more enjoyable to use. in my opinion a fantastic lens- I suppose overall not that common. I wanted a 21 and never looked back with the 24.

Yes, I agree, maybe the 24 it's a better overall fit. But so far, the only NEW option is the Elmar -M f/3.8, which Leica will discontinue, right? Also, $3k for an f/3.8 does it worth? I'm sure it does, I'm talking for the people like me with low budget. I don't like the Zeiss 25, and Voigtlander doesn't have 24mm. It looks like the 24 focal length will disappear. That's why I come back to the lens of this post: the 21 CV ...
lct Posted May 18, 2020 Share #125 Posted May 18, 2020 Another solution would be to get a Steve Barnett's Thumbie (https://tinyurl.com/y9365pks). I have no experience with it but it would allow you to put an EVF on an OVF in the hot shoe of your camera

But much better an external crappy VF than just guestimate, I guess. Or if you master the 21mm frame without an external VF, better Guestimate than a crappy VF ... 🤔

The original Leica or Zeiss looks nicer! I have 21mm but I like the idea of 25mm because you use max size of external corners of the inner viewfinder of body 0,72x or something. mike3996 Posted May 19, 2020 Share #130 Posted May 19, 2020 By the way the plastic Leica viewfinder is so plastic and -- frankly -- crappy, I hate myself spending big bucks on such a plastic item. In retrospect I should have gone with the Ricoh 21/28 viewfinder (meant for the GR series). Otherwise I do enjoy using the external viewfinder, and I also recommend the Thumbie as a hotshoe-free thumb grip alternative. It's not as pretty as some of the shoe-attached grips but is mighty practical and works wonderfully.
cp995 Posted May 23, 2020 Share #131 Posted May 23, 2020 I'm using this great metal Voigtlaender viewfinder 21/25mm 19646 https://www.voigtlaender.de/accessories/viewfinder/?lang=en
NeeZee Posted June 5, 2020 Share #132 Posted June 5, 2020 (edited) Bought the Color-Skopar last week and used it for the first time this week on a bicycle tour. I've never used a lens as wide as this one before and I loved the handling and the sharpness. I used it on an M240 with lens coding switched off. Here are some examples: Welcome, dear visitor! james.liam Posted June 5, 2020 Share #133 Posted June 5, 2020 Some barrel distortion
NeeZee Posted June 5, 2020 Share #134 Posted June 5, 2020 (edited) Yep, distortion and vignetting are there but look quite uniform and symmetrical to me. Should be easy to get rid off in PP. The modern Leica 21mm offerings have the advantage of tailored in-camera correction, of course. Most likely they are better lenses, too Still, I'm very happy with the Skopar - especially for a focal length I'm just getting into... rsolomon Posted June 6, 2020 Share #136 Posted June 6, 2020 Nice, ive debated to exhaustion in my mind, the 21 SEM has such high regard, the SKOPAR had few reviews but folks like it. Had concerns around external VF. Bought the Leica 24, could not be happier! i suppose they are discontinuing the 24’s for market / sales / demand reasons. I’m not sure why people don’t see the FL more desirable but I really don’t care, it’s the perfect compliment to my photography goals. In summary it’s sharp, small, lite, fun, and in my opinion stellar performance my advice at this time is to re evaluate if you really want a 21 because these 24’s will go and a great opportunity missed

I would love to get in the future a brand new 24 Elmar before Leica discontinue it, it's an amazing FL for storytelling with many applications. I think it's the kind of lens that once you get it, you will never sell. But If I can't invest for a brand new 24 Elmar, and can't find great used deals, my next option would be the CV 21 3.
