I worked in Trinidad for year 2000. Cigarettes were dirt cheap, including American brands. At one point, my work-mate said, "Besides being the only white man you can see to the horizon, note that there are also no other smokers." It was true and life changing. I could not change my race. It did help me quit smoking. Edited November 1, 2018 by pico

stuny Posted November 2, 2018 Share #22 Posted November 2, 2018 Brent is correct regarding US cigarette manufacturers seeing the writing on the wall and shifting their market focus. That may have been one of the reasons the big tobacco lawyer on our 1995 China tour was so assiduous at observing smoking behavior there.
Bill W Posted November 7, 2018 Share #23 Posted November 7, 2018 I quit cold turkey in 1976. I am almost allergic to the smoke today. No clue why I did it when I was young but I did. Became an avid runner for almost 20 years till my knee gave out. I took up cycling and walking for exercise. A new knee in 2012 has made all the difference. Much of Texas is now non-smoking in the bars and restaurants.

I'd much rather have the knee problems than deal with lung cancer. Edited November 10, 2018 by fotografr

My first issue was in 1992 but it resulted in my meeting my wife so it was not all that bad. She has had to suffer through my knee issues and both shoulders being operated on. Good news is that she is still around and lets me buy most any Leica thingy I want.....!
