So, Jono is basically confirming. He was the first one here to pour cold water on the C-M speculation.

Oh no Chaemono - I'm not confirming anything - I can really only talk about things I don't know about . . . . . on the other hand not knowing lots of different things can also suggest things (like there wasn't going to be a C-M!). :)

Interesting - L-Mount Alliance: Strategic cooperation between Leica Camera, Panasonic and Sigmahttps://leicarumors.com/2018/09/24/press-release-for-a-new-l-mount-alliance-between-leica-panasonic-and-sigma-just-leaked-online.aspx/

Suddenly long L-lens(es) - mounted on stabilised, full-format sensor(s) - may become a reality...

I have one for my Sony.  I think I've used it a handful of times.  It really isn't reliable at all.  It is more trouble than it's worth.  It freezes quite often.

The problem, the developers of the TAP autofocus adapter had/have, is, that Sony has not published its AF microprogram to them.

They worked more or less by trial and error. At least I believe.

The other problem is the mechanical construction, they have chosen.

On the other hand, it is a nice idea of a Chinese startup company. Remember Edison with his 1% inspiration.....

Yes, as helged references, it's now official:

Dr. Andreas Kaufmann, Chairman of the Supervisory Board and majority shareholder, Leica Camera AG: "Photographers are extremely important for their chosen camera system. Particularly in the increasingly growing market for mirrorless system cameras, there is an ever-increasing variety of different requirements on the part of the users. In order to be able to meet these requirements at short notice, we have decided to work together with renowned partners from the photographic industry.
With Panasonic associates us with many years of partnership and trusting cooperation and their expertise in electronics is undisputed. Sigma is also a respected company, which has established itself particularly in the field of optical development and can offer a perfect complement to our existing L-Mount portfolio with its innovative products , We believe that together with our partners, we can achieve mutual and sustainable growth for all our products. "

...

Currently, the Leica SL system in full format and the APS system with camera models Leica CL, TL2 and TLde use the lens mount. All the optics of the different systems can be operated without restrictions and without adapters on all cameras - here is already one of the many advantages that customers have through the unified bayonet. In the near future, both the Leica CameraAG, as well as Panasonic and Sigma announce other products using the same standard.

Huzzah !

Sense has prevailed ... there is no way Leica could have produced a full portfolio of lenses to match everyones needs.

Here we have a mix and match solution that suits many users and their varied finances .... although premium Sigma could hardly be described as cheap ....

In the land of Leica, premium Sigma is the bargain of the century.... Of course, they're all ginormous and heavy. I'm curious to see some native Simga's SL lenses.

First thing Sigma could do is to adopt some of their current Art and Contemporary range full frame lenses to L mount.

Link is for Nikon F mount but it could easily be Canon or Sony or future LPS or Leica-Panasonic-Sigma.

Some of those L O N G  Sigma lenses are not exactly state of the art.

Panasonic was instrumental in the optical design of the 90-280 and 16-35.  I'm wondering if they will use the Panasonic badge or Leica badge for their lenses, they've shown that they can make lenses that are state of the art but will they continue?

Sigma's 100-400mm Contemporary, f/6.3 at the long end, resolves better at f/6.3 than its Canon counterpart does at f/5.6.  At less than 1.2 kg, less than 200mm when collapsed, and with effective stabilization and good ergonomics, it would be great to see an L-mount option.  Dirt cheap, too, probably the best bang for buck I've seen in recent telephoto offerings.

A high-end 500mm f4 with extenders... Yes, I am in.

Correct, I have the Sigma 500mm f4. Not the best lens. But Sigma can (much) better, as we know. And the Leica-Pana-Sigma trio can produce top products. Just a question about priorities and cost. And the markert volume, obviously.

What about revitalisation of the Leica R modular system...? With AF? And relying on sensor stabilisation?
