bags27 Posted September 2, 2018 Share #1 Posted September 2, 2018 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi all- What an incredible embarrassment of riches! So many great photographers posting so many great photos. Maybe the summer weather brought out the enthusiasm, but I think that the quality of photos is fantastic and so is the quantity. They have been a real inspiration to me, and I get lots of ideas about subject and style from looking at the photos others take. My problem is that when we post a number of photos at a time, I can't appreciate them the way I want. Maybe others have the same challenge? I'm wondering whether we might have a discussion on the approximate number of photos to post at the same time; or the number of frames to use (it's possible to post more than one image in a frame, and that helps limit scrolling). Might we discuss the advantages/disadvantages of posting no more than (say) 3-4 pictures at a time? And then wait a couple of hours before posting more in the same thread, to give us all at least an opportunity to savor the contribution? And, to be utterly pedestrian about it, that way, by getting closer attention, our photos get more "thanks" and maybe get noticed more in "Top Images." (Go, Q users!) Is that a fair thing to bring up? I don't know if I'm being obnoxious here, and if so, just say it. Or, if the mods think this is out of bounds, just let me know, but please don't expel me to the Sony board :-) best wishes and gratitude to all, Ken Edited September 2, 2018 by bags27

Leica Guy Posted September 2, 2018 Share #2 Posted September 2, 2018 Ken, A good topic for discussion. I am in the camp of posting single photos has the most impact unless its macro where I sometimes like to zoom out for context before zooming in for details. Perhaps a little time between posts ensures better recognition. I too sometimes saturate when a long list of photos are posted and I cannot give thanks to an individual image. I’m loving all the posts and how active the Q forum is.
earleygallery Posted September 2, 2018 Share #3 Posted September 2, 2018 I don’t think frequency of posting is an issue. I only visit the photo forums occasionally. When I look I see what’s there! Personally I’d say if it ain’t broke don’t fix it. I think there could be more encouragement to comment and critique - surely the main benefit of such forums - but we have tried that before and it’s always turned nasty.
tgdinamo Posted September 3, 2018 Share #4 Posted September 3, 2018 (edited) I agree and on the pinned threads especially people should post less often for more impact (not saturate couple of pages of those threads with consecutive posts - I have been guilty of doing just that more than once). On the other hand, it's easy to start new topic threads where people can post all they want. Edited September 3, 2018 by tgdinamo
bags27 Posted September 3, 2018 Author Share #5 Posted September 3, 2018 It's a great idea to have more topic threads. Thanks!

Just dumping a large number of unrelated subjects "because I took them" will soon chase viewers away. Having said that, the number of times we had to caution a member for overposting images can be counted on one hand over all these years, and only one member ever had to leave - and it weren't even Leica photographs he was posting, only "comparisons" In other words, if you get fed up with somebody's work, look away
bags27 Posted September 4, 2018 Author Share #9 Posted September 4, 2018 thanks, I agree jaapv. I think it's a great credit to the Q users that we don't like to skip over contributions, but spend time complimenting and understanding them (which is also a habit on other Leica threads as well, which is why I tend to lurk just about everywhere).
Reini Posted September 4, 2018 Share #10 Posted September 4, 2018 I think in a series 3 pictures are good at once. If you set individual pictures only 1 -2 per day.So everyone has time to discuss it and you do not mess with the user.
Voxen Posted September 5, 2018 Share #11 Posted September 5, 2018 I agree for some kind of limits so the forum does not become a card unload area. Forcing users to be more selective on uploads can help improve the overall quality of posts.
jaapv Posted September 5, 2018 Share #12 Posted September 5, 2018 One forces users to be more selective by giving constructive critique, something we see far too rarely on this forum. I am not in favour of a limit, in extreme cases moderators will handle the issue.
