Unfortunately I've noticed some of my vacation photos have the same line - I am going to go through all the shots and see how many have the line. Because I was travelling I think it's probably some debris that got into some of the film or in the camera. I hope so anyway, rather than a fault in the camera. 28framelines Posted January 20, 2023 Share #1307 Posted January 20, 2023 Advertisement (gone after registration) This probably has been asked before, but do all versions of the 35mm Summilux pre-ASPH (steel rim, v2, titanium) all flare the same way? No, it’s thought that as the versions changed (and presumably coatings changed), these lenses exhibit less flare. In my experience of comparing these lenses side by side - with those improvements come also less glow and more contrast as you move along the versions. FWIW, Titan variant having the most contrast , and noticeably more apparent sharpness. Oddly, even more so than the German copies despite being produced in the same years. (One would think it was same glass coatings in a different barrel but that doesn’t appear to be the case from my tests - perhaps because the Titan was introduced later/last) So, variants being: v1 Steel Rim v2 Canada v2 Germany v2 Titanium Bare in mind if serviced and adjusted properly these are all plenty sharp enough even at 1.4 , and all observations above are from testing / pixcel peeping... IMHO the sharpness differences are irrelevant for real world photography but the other differences could be worth baring in mind depending on preference. No, all v2 use the 12504 hood with the filter (49mm filters fit) in the hood. Mainly I guess because they are not really different “versions” - these variations and categorisations are just based on our observations in minor performance/signature changes . Meaning the design including hood/filter didn’t change through lifespan V1 steel rim has a thread for a filter, though (E41) Edited January 20, 2023 by grahamc

As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Just a glowy, blurry self-portrait of me and my sister. Tri-X +1, yellow filter, 35 ‘Lux Pre-Asph v2 (German), wide open. Sometimes I feel like the way this lens renders at 1.4 feels more akin to a memory than a real-life rendition. Paired with film it really works for me. Looking back at photos, the way they look match the way I remember the moment: a little dreamy, a little grainy, not perfectly detailed, but fun and pleasant to look at.
 Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! Or were there some that still stopped at a metre? Generally I think they focus to 0.9. I’ve tested 4 German copies (2 titanium, 2 black). Of these copies , all but one of them focused to 0.9 The newest of the black focusses to 0.75 for some unknown reason. The interesting thing is that this and the 2 titaniums were all the same year (1992). FWIW the other German copy 1990 Thia closer focussing lens may have been modified (although I have no reason to believe it was other than the freak focus distance). But tested side by side with the other black copy they don’t show any other performance differences at all and render identically. weatherproof Posted January 27, 2023 Share #1320 Posted January 27, 2023 Graham, is there anything noticeable about the copy that goes down to 0.75 besides the focusing ring turning a bit more? Can you share a photo of the focusing ring at its MFD? JMF, is your image implying you have a Canadian version that goes down to ~0.8m?
