So after months of research and looking through dozens of pages on this thread, I went on the hunt for a 35 Lux Pre-ASPH and jumped on a late model German made one on eBay, serial 353XXXX. I went on my first drive after my knee surgery and thankfully there are a plethora of interesting abandoned buildings near me to photograph. Let me just say I am somewhat shocked and blown away by this lens.

Firstly: I expected a lot more glow than I have seen so far from my own images. I’m not sure if it’s because this is a late model but it certainly glows, just not to the propensity I’ve seen in other photos in this thread. Sort of a good and bad thing I suppose!

Secondly: I am flabbergasted at how sharp and contrasty this lens gets. My only other 35mm I currently have to compare it to is my Light Lens Lab 35mm f/2 8-Element lens. It is both significantly sharper and much more contrasty than that lens from f/2 through f/16. The only time I see any significant glow is at f/1.4, and like I said it is not to the extent I was expecting. Today is only my first day with this lens but I can’t wait to continue to explore and get to know it’s capabilities. I can already say though it will be with me for life.

Firstly, two sample images from my M10M showing the drastic difference done by stopping down just one stop:

Another set, showing the difference from wide open and stopping down. Here there’s definitely some glow, but it is not to the amount I expected at all.

And one more, I kept it as wide open as I could but I believe I had to step down to f/2.

All above photos were taken with a M10 Monochrom, with some post processing done but nothing major. If anyone is interested in seeing unedited DNGs or the comparison with the 8 Element Light Lens Lab lens let me know, and I can try to gather something up to send it to you. I can say without a doubt I’m already in love with this lens, and can’t wait to shoot some Tri-X with it in the coming few weeks with my MP.

Thank you! Got a trip planned for Detroit next month, the little Lux will definitely be glued to my MP the week I’m there!

Edit: @grahamcjust realized we spoke about this before on the film photos thread 😂 clearly I couldn’t hold myself off getting this lens very long, I had to go and get a German one for myself lol. Still wish it focused as close as yours though!

35 Lux v2 wide open at about MFD (0.85-0.9m). Have been absolutely falling in love with this lens over the last week.
