A friend of mine has been using Leica M film cameras since his late father gave him one fifty years ago. One day he asked me if I had a digital camera that he could use to 'knock off some pictures' of something he had to sell. Well, I have a Panasonic G-something and a bag of lenses, instruction manual and handed it to him saying, "Enjoy"

He did not enjoy. He returned it saying, "I never thought taking a picture could be made so difficult."

I must be a genius - i don't find Panasonic G-something cameras difficult at all :p

As a dentist you are used to work with technical equipment.

Besides that, I wouldn’t be surprised if the guy was only referring to the menu structure.

DL is either hopelessly clueless of how different people have different interests, values, and preferences or is just trying to get attention. He writes with complete investment in his own values, ignorant of the huge diversity of others, he thinks he knows it all... but does not understand people... of yeh, a techi... they are known for the absence of EQ. The M10 is not intended as a please all possible camera user types, otherwise it would have a cutting edge sensor and every electronic option under the sun. It is a refined design specifically tailored to a group of very serious photographers... the knowledge of many decades of refinement then recast in the digital world. Leica struggled making the transition, not surprising. First thinking that a cropped sensor was the way to go... following to some extent what the other digital camera manufacturers were doing... but they got their footing back and realized that the essence of photography is no different than it was in the film days. The difference, ISO dial instead of film advance lever. It is not at all surprising the camera evolves back to what it was twenty years ago? The future of the M should be incredibly bright (unless Leica looses focus from a business point of view again). The next version will have a sensor with greater dynamic range and more pixels... and honestly the removable bottom is only vestigial... that can go. Otherwise, while not a camera for absolutely every situation, for me it is the best camera on Earth and I am looking forward to the M11.

Still struggling with my chair though. It's Italian and the electronic part must have been designed by the son of the bloke who did the electrics of the Alfa Giulia 1600 Super...  :(  My friend had one - when he used the indicator switch the lights used to come on - with a bit of smoke.

Bit of smoke for signalling, designer must have been fan of Cowboy and Red Indian movies.

honestly. the last thing I'd need on the future M11 is video. I had it on the m240 and never used. Video requires AF to be seriously operated. I used video on the Canon 5DIV and there, thanks to the dual pixel AF, is really useful.

My Gopro 6 is better (and more effective) at video than my previous M240...

AF for Video??? Why?  I used my M240 as a video notebook when travelling and it was perfect for the purpose. No need to drag other gear around. And don't start saying iPhone or GoPro, those video clips are not on the same card as the images the videos referred to.  The whole point was to link the two. Journalistic and travel use, two things this camera is meant for, are served by an integrated, albeit limited, video function. And if you don't want it, shut it off.

I never use EV compensation. Should I go on the forums and stridently proclaim that it is useless and should be taken off the camera - just because it happens to be something I don't want or need?

Leica took it out of the M10 because they could not get the heat management right in the smaller body. If they are wise the'll reintroduce it, if only as a menu function,  when it becomes possible again.
