wda Posted July 4, 2018 Share #2 Posted July 4, 2018 Vieri, no doubt due to many years with square format, a square based on the upper part is so much more appealing to me. Beautiful tones and shapes.
Jim-St Posted July 4, 2018 Share #3 Posted July 4, 2018 Beautiful photograph, Vieri. I’m inclined to agree with David re the crop, although I’d happily put it on the wall as it is! Jim
Vieri Posted July 4, 2018 Author Share #4 Posted July 4, 2018 (edited) Vieri, no doubt due to many years with square format, a square based on the upper part is so much more appealing to me. Beautiful tones and shapes. Beautiful photograph, Vieri. I’m inclined to agree with David re the crop, although I’d happily put it on the wall as it is! Jim David & Jim, thank you very much indeed for your comments, I am glad you enjoyed it As far as the square crop, to me, the picture's sense of depth works both because of the compression effect of the focal length used and because of the decreasing sizes of the alternating strips of mist / land. Thus, cutting the lower strip would IMHO much decrease the depth effect of the scene (near / far effect), putting you "outside" of the scene rather than more "inside" of it as I intended: this is why I framed it as I did and why I left it as such in post. Cropping it square would not make it better or worse, just different, IMO. Of course, I appreciate it that you might feel different about it, especially if you are used to the classic (and wonderful) square format - this is the beauty of photography after all Thanks again!
