Pentax K-1 (II), Leica Macro-Elmarit-R 60/2.8

It is a real pity that the French are so insular and chauvinistic when it comes to food. There was an excellent sushi restaurant a few km away, which also had a van that visited local markets but after a few years, it was gone. There was a very good Vietnamese restaurant that opened in the main square of the village, where I have my house. I ate there a few times but sadly always had the place to myself, so it closed after a couple of months. The nearest Indian restaurant is an hour and a half away near Nice Airport and not very good, the food is so mild it is not worth eating. There is a buffet style Chinese restaurant in Draguignan the nearest big town but there food is set out in steam trays for help yourself - here is one we cooked earlier - much earlier. I have been ill after both visits. There was a good tiny Vietnamese restaurant in Draguignan, where I would ask for a Bun soup made with egg noodles and as hot as the family would eat it. It took some persuading to get it how I wanted but I went back there at least two or three times every season. Sadly their lease ended and it is now a hairdressers. After 6 months away from the UK, I suffer from Indian/Chinese/Japanese/Vietnamese food withdrawal symptoms. I do cook my own curries from Spice Tailor packs, which are not bad at all (particularly Fiery Goan Curry) and have made attempts at Pho/Bun but it is not the same as a good Indian or Vietnamese restaurant. My wife is getting pretty good at things like Pho and Salt and Pepper prawns but she is not a fan of France. We are meeting up in Corfu tomorrow.

It is rather insulting and condescending accusing the French of  being culinary insular and chauvinistic more so on a photography forum!

There is no issue in having different type of cuisines in any country providing full consideration is made to the people of the  country in terms of respecting their traditions. being it culinary or otherwise.

More so when France and Italy led the world with their cuisines followed by Russia.

Maybe you think it is perfectly alright for Shawarma to take over the street food of Germany obliterating the German Pork Rolle or the British Chip butty...etc

You would well informed to not that the Vietnam Pho and Banh Mi are French Pot-au-feu  and Baguette!

I understand your violent reaction to the French people and I also appreciate the fact that your are British which is self defeating when it cones to food.

A simple single  reminder that the only way to buy Olive oil in England was from the chemist until the 1980's.

Please do reflect on your erroneous statements in the future.

Thank you

(and I am not French for the record)

Can’t agree more, especially in a thread about R lenses, which is not about discussions, commenting about a photo from a restaurant in Lisboa, on top of it.

Let's get back to Leica R lens image.  Here is one taken with Elmarit-R 35mm (version 1).

It was a reaction to the photos above of a Japanese restaurant, so IMHO not unreasonable. I live in France for 6 months a year, so not exactly a France hater. Sadly I think French food has declined in standards greatly in recent years, which as someone who has eaten in France for over 60 years, it is something I notice. I also think your reaction is completely over the top.

Driving through a rural California farming town late at night, I noticed these mannequins in a store window. Illuminated in warm lights, they looked like forlorn beings in a gilded cage.
