wda Posted June 24, 2018 Share #2 Â Posted June 24, 2018 An example of where Auto ISO can be useful. It can easily be over-ridden if desired.
jaapv Posted June 24, 2018 Author Share #3 Â Posted June 24, 2018 Yes and no - It wouldn't have gotten me this look, which quite suits the subject.
Louis Posted June 24, 2018 Share #4 Â Posted June 24, 2018 (edited) Jaap, you are right, the colors look very natural. 3200 is very acceptable with CL. Â As I always set my ISO, I have trouble to have a good understanding of Auto ISO. When I set to this feature, I can change the F, but my exposure speed always remains the same!!... I couldn never figure out how to change that ! Â Actually, after writing the above comments, I played again with the top wheels and realized that I should choose F or speed with the left wheel first, and then choose the desired exposure with the right wheel!.... therefore, I must always keep setting my exposure for each shot; the ISO changes automatically accordingly!.... Â I think this would slow down my photography! Edited June 24, 2018 by Louis
wda Posted June 24, 2018 Share #5 Â Posted June 24, 2018 While I agree that high ISOs are possible, for critical work they do carry a slight penalty. Amplified signals increase noise. Noise reduction reduces sharpness. But the penalty is unlikely to worry users whose main output is posting to websites. For stock photography and fine art, ISOs at base level or near are highly desirable. Auto ISO is a useful safeguard when trotting around towns or general touring in my experience. jaapv Posted June 24, 2018 Author Share #6 Â Posted June 24, 2018 That is exactly what I mean by film-like look. Slightly fuzzy resolution, albeit high, and a certain flattening of the colour. A look that can be quite attractive, even in a fine-art print. And a spot of grain-like noise I appied no noise reduction, bar the standard 25% of ACR.

I love that they value details over noise. Absolutely hate how Fuji files used to look at high ISO : (

JTLeica Posted June 26, 2018 Share #9 Â Posted June 26, 2018 "Used to look" yep... Â No, the X100F still produced extremely smudgy files at high ISO - I had one until around a week ago - My father now has it.
frame-it Posted June 26, 2018 Share #10 Â Posted June 26, 2018 strange..but my xh1 blows away my SL in high ISO in the street at night in available light shots...but that's just my experience and opinion...sorry for going off topic. Bill W Posted June 26, 2018 Share #11 Â Posted June 26, 2018 I thought I was the only one that did this regularly. Or my favorite is that I shot for several hours and only had it on jpg. I usually always shoot DNG + jpg.
