Visioflex viewfinder a new experience

I visited the Leica store yesterday and tried the visioflex, I was amazed... and now I will have a new experience with the M10...I have two non coded lenses old elmarit 28 and 90 that I use much in my travels, before, I have to look at the live view for composing and even focus assists, this slows down my shooting as well in many times don't get good focus...using the elctronic view finder I can now focus fast, with auto magnification and focus peaking confirmation, and I get the full view...I tried it with the model in the store using the 90 mm and image below was focused on the face not the eye at F2.4, with focus magnification and peaking I should have focused on the eye, I doubt if I can get this type of focusing fast with the rangefinder on an old eye...I am happy and will use the M10 more...in my last travel to Asia I shot 10x more with the auto focus A7R than the M10 ;-(

 

I will also try the GPS tagging.

I keep resisting getting one of these. I have a few Nikon manual focus lenses that I really like: 55mm 1.2SC, 85mm 1.4AIS, 105mm 2.5AIS and have given up my Nikon bodies and AF lenses for Leica. When I add up what I can get for these lenses, plus not spending the money on a Visioflex, it almost translates to a Summilux! Well, not quite...

With my M9 i used a Sony A7 for R lenses (ultrawide, long, and macro), but wide M lenses had issues on the A7. So when I got an M10 I added the 020 Visoflex. I can hit exact focus with a 135 better with it, and it works OK with my 21 f4 CV, so I don't need to use and external optical finder with it.

However, while it is handy for specialty use, it is far clunkier than even the base A7 due to the low light slow down and long delay for the shutter action.

So if I don't want just a light kit with one body, I'll still use the A7 as my "R solution".

I have one for my M10 but it's not as good as using the EVF of the Q. And  always rangefinder focus is just as accurate if not more so. Also a lot quicker. So disappointed unless one day I decide to get the expensive adapter for 90mm macro.

After a year with an M10, my first M after many, many more years with other cameras, and after going back and forth with and without it, the Visioflex is now on my camera much more often than not.

I don't understand why Leica couldn't get it right for the 2nd generation of a Visoflex-enabled M. Why can't they make one that you can actually use for focusing instead of a pricey viewfinder that's only useful for framing?

The Visoflex 020 is actually quite good for focusing. I use the auto magnification (which it can do when it detects the lens cam action), and especially with long lenses can really nail the focus. The main disadvantage compared to cameras like the A7 series is that when you press the shutter button the M10 has to first close the shutter (which has been open for live-view), then re-activate the shutter for the timed exposure, then again open the shutter to enable live view. The A7 series avoids this delay because they use electronic first curtain (or fully electronic) so the mechanical shutter doesn't have to close first. So the M10 Viso isn't so good for action and moving subjects.

If Leica could go to an electronic shutter it would avoid this weakness.

I agree with many of the observations pros and cons....but as one poster said...it is a great help to focus and compose...maybe now I will get more images captured with the M together with the A7R, I will see n the next few days, I am now in San Francisco and will shot this city by the bay we had a vacation home and left years ago when we moved to NY. I'm not quite sure that I understand this post. I had the M240 which focused excellently with the EV2, and I understand the Visoflex on the M10 is a clear improvement. What is your problem?

Of course, as the framing is done through the lens.

Microview must be thinking of macro adaptor ring .

Possibly, but that was mainly aesthetic, not functional, except for the blackout time.

I rarely use it but when I need it (Nikon lenses or M Macro adapter for some reproductions)  I'm satisfied with the overall performances of the Visoflex 020 on the M10.

As am I (satisfied). Still use the OVF 95% of the time but,

for example, when shooting some architectural interiors yesterday with the VM 15 III on a tripod, it was perfect to nail composition, while still using the RF to focus.
