I worked with HB on a new strap for my M10 and wanted to share! The quality and final product is simply AWESOME. Whether or not camouflage is your thing, you can still appreciate the workmanship and creativity. Hats off to Harry!

I don't see a strap? I just see a camera. Maybe it's too well ... camouflaged? :p

I wouldn't buy a camouflage half case for the same reason, I would never find the camera :p

You are the second person I have heard talk about these straps. How well does the leather break in and the strap stay on your shoulder? Is it a good ‘user’ strap to carry every day around town in all seaons?

nice job on the camo for the leather, even if its not my style! Maybe an a-la-carte camo M10?

Hello Outdoorimages,

This is my second HB strap and I wouldn't have bought a second if the first wasn't fantastic. I have tried countless straps (Arte Di Mano, Luigi, Tie her up, Annie Barton, Leica, Artisan, etc) and Harry's has been my favorite so far. I have liked many others as well.

The best way I can explain HB straps is that they feel as luxurious and broken in as the Arte Di Mano straps but the HB feels more substantial or heavy duty. The HB also has a few design features that stand out to me: strap thickness is thicker where your neck is, connectors avoid the protective flaps, creative paint that is durable, etc.

I answered your questions below.

How well does the leather break in and the strap stay on your shoulder?

The leather chosen already feels broken in to me. Similar to straps like the Arte Di Mano, the HB straps are ready to go from the time you receive. To me it has a broken in feel like Arte Di Mano straps but feels more substantial. I am also a minimalist and like the design of ends because it doesn't require the flaps/ears at the end. The width of the strap where it sits on your neck is good for all day use without a pad.

Is it a good ‘user’ strap to carry every day around town in all seaons?

YES, definitely. It may look like art but it certainly is made to last a very long time while being comfortable from jump street.

I'd buy a camo version M10. And I am not talking about the pleather grip. Paint the whole dang thing!

I guess I am just an old fart because I prefer a plain black or brown strap. It seems this camo strap would draw more attention than a black or brown one. Don't get me wrong I am sure it is a nice strap.

I have several HB straps and they all are very comfortable (M3, M6, MP, Q, SL, M246, Rolliflex), wear well and just right, even with the heavier rigs. I may see a bit of minor paint cracking on some as I wrap the straps around the lenses when stored, but faint and adds character. I don't imagine these straps failing. I use 52 in long versions and wear across chest; they slide nicely when I bring the camera up to use. Mine are not as fully painted as the camo example, but with racing strips...

Much of the time I carry my M10 in my hand, with the strap coiled round my wrist and hand (currently an A&A adjustable one).  Are the HB straps soft and flexible enough to do this from the beginning, or do they need to be really broken in to do it comfortably? Thanks.....

 - got 2 straps, no complaints, wonderfully handicrafted. Supersoft from the beginning ;)

I agree with Shlomo that they are super soft from the get go.

For this particular strap, it is a little more stiff than normal due to the paint covering the entire strap but can still easily be wrapped around your wrist with comfort. It will soften up in a couple of weeks though (not years).

That is how I normally carry a camera when shooting, and a bulky strap just gets in the way. For years I carried my Leicaflex SL with a strap made from a single braided nylon parachute cord (olive green military). It was long enough to carry the camera just over my waist under my arm when over a shoulder, but very light, flexible, and would coil around my wrist without bulk. The cord was just small enough diameter to squeeze through the strap lugs and thread back up into itself to make a locking end. It held up fine for decades.

The “strap” disappeared when the camera had a CLA, and I haven’t found an equivalent cord since then, as what is sold as parachute cord now is made differently.

An an hour spent sat in front of the TV with a beer and working your way along the standard Leica strap bending and squeezing it tightly one way then another softens the strap up. It counts as your days exercise as well so two jobs done at no cost.
