How to upload images: Prepare the image as follows: 1.   The image should be sRGB and 8-bits 2.   Reduce the size to 2048 pixels on the longest side. (smaller sizes can be set, but are not recommended) 3.   Sharpen properly for screen. 4.   Save as JPG to your desktop, reducing JPG quality to produce 2000 kB (5000 kB for sponsoring members). 5.   In Lightroom these parameters should be set in the Export dialog. 6.   In the Forum posting or editing box, click “choose Files” and s

CL with 180mm APO-Elmarit-R + 2 stacked OUFRO, f/5.6, cropped at about 40% . . .    This combination yields 1:4 (1:2.67 relative to crop sensor) at MFD of just over 1.1m. For me, it is a comfortable

This combination yields 1:4 (1:2.67 relative to crop sensor) at MFD of just over 1.1m. For me, it is a comfortable combination of working distance and depth of field at an aperture that lets in enough light for handheld shooting in normal daylight conditions.  I have a Zeiss 2/100, but never use it for close-ups for the same reason I ditched the R 100mm APO a few years back: overly stiff focus throw.

I do notice an interesting difference to  the Q Macro thread - the longer focal lengths are really helpful.

For Macro, they hold an advantage.

Not only does it give a more pleasing perspective, it creates better lighting conditions. In some cases it allows us to approach the subject (some insects, for instance) without disturbing them.

It's remarkable that a setup with a 2X teleconverter can resolve the texture of the eyes, though it's probably not visible in this downsized version, cropped at about 40% . . .
