I guess, there are different „M-shooters“...

I would appreciate a „Landscape-M“ for my work with HDR, GFX-like EVF, better weather sealing and >40MPix. I don‘t care about AF lenses, but want to make max. usage of my M lens collection.

My patIence with Leica is not endless...

Personally, I would LOVE a CM to be a spiritual successor to the film CM... as the recently released CL was.

Here is a picture of, from left to right, the CM (film version with built in Summarit 40mm), CL with 18-56, MA with 50 APO, M10 with 35 Lux and SL with 50 SL Lux. Admittedly, the SL has an L bracket on it, but with any of its native glass it is an obviously bigger and heavier package. For giggles, I have also shown the "old" CL with the "new" CL.

If dreams came true for me Leica would release a CM of about the same size as the original, with a tiny matching f/2.4 Summarit 40mm lens (albeit not a retractable one) and a full frame sensor. I would happily sacrifice frame rate cope with more automatic functions and less external control than an M for a tiny full frame carry everywhere modern Leica.

Of course, this is another of Scott's "alternate realities", but it is fun to dream.

Far too much wishful and unrealistic thinking in this thread thus likely to be some disappointments when the official announcement is made. Maybe forum members should consider Jono's comments more carefully. He is one of those who would have been testing whatever is to be announced so his hints as to "what it's not gong to be" are likely correct. And few forum members seem to fully appreciate that whatever is in the pipeline has been in development for many many months. Designing and developing a new camera and producing prototypes takes at least two years …  plus another 3 or 4 months to test it … and the same with lenses. And it's a major logistical exercise to put them into production; it cannot be done overnight. Best to be patient and wait for the official announcement and  avoid all the usual second-guessing hysteria and false hopes.

There is nothing wrong with dreaming. It's an internet forum, not some endeavour requiring accuracy and a measured approach.

Wait until you see all the "I'm disappointed …   they should have  …  Why don't they listen …" etc., etc., comments after the official announcement.

What would be the sense of going to such lengths  for 14 stops when present Leica sensors are already specified for 13 stops absolute dynamic range?

The current ARRI ALEXA implementation of HDR produces a 14 stop dynamic range. The sensor "dual output photosite combination" method used to produce that range isn't limited to 14 stops, that is just what is currently (since 2015) available form ARRI.

That's fine too. It's also a good feedback to Leica. Of course they are free to ignore it, but there is nothing wrong to get that out there (someone can filter through all the noise if they want and perhaps find some useful ideas). And it's not like this particular forum has as much noise as most other places on the web.

Agreed. Always interesting to hear of other people's aspirations. And in the end informed feedback is always good feedback. I had thought that this was the intended purpose of forums such as these. Or am I wrong and freedom of thought is actually prohibited, in which case I apologise to big brother...

I can understand your sentiments Jaap but in this day and age, common sense is hard to come by. I think there's more chance that on June 14th, Leica announce a 50MP EVF M that autofocuses M lenses via pupil tracking, all for just USD 1,995...and with a 35mm Noctilux thrown in as part of an early buyer's promotional package...

Let's hope they apply a strong common-sense filter, though ;)

That would be great, but that Noctilux better be small and light (while naturally maintaining best IQ ever). ;)

The CM probably holds the joint top spot with the Rollei 35 as the cutest film point and shoot of all time.

Reminds me of the C1, which is another great design that could be resurrected. It would look futuristic even in 2018. In fact, it kind of looks like a combination of the TL2 and CL with EVF. Hmmmmmmmmm....

Thank you!

And I do agree - I think a Q sized body with an L mount (and an M adapter) is a fantastic idea - so many people who don’t like rangeffinder focusing would love it . . . . . perhaps they’ll do it, perhaps they’ll even do it on June 14th, but I doubt it. . . . And if they do I might even buy one!

But as far as FF with AF, perhaps they could manage a few smaller primes, but the zooms just won’t be (just as the Sony ones aren’t), to me that means that if you have a bag with 3kg of lenses it doesn’t matter if the camera body weighs a few hundred grams more - I don’t think it’s that significant. . . . Sometimes a larger body is better. What really interests me is what the SL replacement body will be like (assuming that there is one). I would like to think that will be a little smaller, and if so . . Where does it leave this camera?

I think the supposed camera can be boiled down to two things that people want:

1. A small FF EVF camera to use with M lenses

Rightly or wrongly I don’t think that Leica will do that whilst M sales are good

2. A small EVF camera with new small very high quality AF primes

I think this one (that)  requires magic (at least at the moment)

Please consider Jono's comments

And count the number of people calling for a particular feature/function/item rather than how strongly the opinion is expressed and how many times repeated.

But I have no problem with rampant speculation - it all adds to the entertainment.

If you don't like it, read another thread.

I doubt the forum's multitude of posts exceed the weight of Leica's photographic experience and knowledge. And historical knowledge of what works and sells consistently well. While Leica has been in recent years relatively adventurous, I consider their adventures to be conservative. I like that  :D
