Keith, nice photo.  May I ask what kind of scanner you use?

I live in Andorra (tiny principality of 75000 citizens). There is only one shop to get chemistry for photography.

Ordering online takes a very long time because mail is hell around here (we don't have our own postal service. It's handled by spanish and french postal services).

I did order some proper developer, but the only available in the shop was PQ Universal.
Since I didn't want to wait 3 to 6 weeks for my order, I used PQ Universal.

Proof with my images that PQ Universal works for negatives. I just have to tweak the settings.

Using a paper developer might be not ideal but should work. It could lead to a grainier image or to to much contrast. But that mustn't be if you dilute it or use a short time. Looks quite well here.
The fading in the bottom looks like the negative is not properly fixed. The base should be totally clear. If it looks a bit milky then you better fix and wash it again.

Epson V700 & the EpsonScan software in default settings. Import into LR CC.

You get wonderful results.  It's interesting because I see on the web how so many don't use default settings.  I use a V600 and spend a lot of time adjusting the histogram.  I will try default settings and see what I get.

Thanks.

I look forward to seeing your results.

Hi there,

If you've used the services of mini-lab scans in the past, what differences do you perceive with your Epson V700?

I'm genuinely interested and looking for advice....given i'm all out of digital M now, and going back to film only (5x4 ...which is just incredible; and 35mm Leica M7)!!

I'm trying to see what, if any, benefits i'd get to substituting the mini-lab scans with a home scanner like the Epson ....at the moment, i'm barrelling between mini-lab scans and drum scans!!

Very nice.  You should post this in some of the "which apo fle summinocti should i get" threads as its mostly not the gear that takes good photos

Nice image, how are you getting on with the 7 artisans lens, I’ve been toying with the idea of getting one but with the price being so low I’ve not been sure about the quality of build and sharpness.
