scott kirkpatrick Posted May 16, 2018 Share #306 Posted May 16, 2018 Mine just got to me (or I got to it -- we're in DC). I haven't had much time to shoot, but the AF and general operation is fast as lightning. Here's some, at ISO6400, underexposed one or two stops. scott kirkpatrick Posted May 16, 2018 Share #307 Posted May 16, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Anyone done a comparison to fixed M primes of comparable focal length? I am planning to try table-top work with some small constructed model environments with the 16-35, the Super Elmarit 15 R on the SL and the CL with its 11-23. I can add in the M 21/34 and 18/3.8, but neither focuses very close. I don't own a WATE, but several have said that the big 16-35 is superior in clarity and resolution.

Would be great if you can add the 21SEM to the mix in one way or another - particularly because of its claimed and praised and demonstrated superiority. Prior to the 16-35, that is... jplomley Posted May 16, 2018 Author Share #309 Posted May 16, 2018 (edited) I find the 21 SEM on the M10 much better than on the SL. On the SL, I observe some corner smearing....hence my interest in how the 16-35 compares to the M focal length equivalents, specifically the WATE, 18 SEM, 21 SEM, 24 SEM, 28 Cron v2 and the 35 Lux FLE...at similar apertures of course :-) Edited May 16, 2018 by jplomley

MediaFotografie Posted May 20, 2018 Share #315 Posted May 20, 2018 I have'nt much experience with (ulta)wide angle (below 24mm), so I tried the SVE at Wetzlar's Leica Store - ended up with buying one, in my case new opportunities in fotography Welcome, dear visitor! scott kirkpatrick Posted May 20, 2018 Share #316 Posted May 20, 2018 (edited) Another use for extreme wide angle lenses is reproducing the human viewpoint in a model, miniature environment. I did a series this morning to compare the SL's 16-35, the CL's 11-23 and my R15/2.8. The SL lens can focus down to about 25 cm, which leaves 8 cm between the lens hood and the object. The CL focuses to 20 cm and the R Elmarit to 17 or 18 cm. I used as a subject a model fruit stand that our kids spent many afternoons building a few years back. It's 20 cm high, and about a foot wide. Here's the SL@18 mm: S1020099 by scott kirkpatrick, on Flickr then the R 15 at nearly its closest setting (note the lack of software correction): R1020161 by scott kirkpatrick, on Flickr and finally, the CL at 11 mm (16-eff): C1050362 by scott kirkpatrick, on Flickr More combinations are at https://www.flickr.com/gp/133969392@N05/5f02ES and I will add future experiments. They all work. The SL and the Vario-Elmar 16-35 was the easiest to use, with back button autofocus and magnification both driven by the joystick. scott kirkpatrick Posted May 23, 2018 Share #318 Posted May 23, 2018 Nice architectural shots. Tripod, or handheld? There were several pages of lamentations that this lens would not have OIS, so I was sitting comfortably in my office, elbows supported on the chair arms, but handheld away from my body, and had this sort of result at 1/8 sec or so (100% clip): S1020173 by scott kirkpatrick, on Flickr at 16 mm Of course, shooting at 1 sec didn't go as well. This isn't the OM1.2 with both IBIS and OIS.
MediaFotografie Posted May 23, 2018 Share #319 Posted May 23, 2018 (edited) Nice architectural shots. Tripod, or handheld? Thank you! all handheld , 16/19/16mm, f 5,6, 1/30s or 1/45s I think it's not a real problem without OIS btw: great books!!! helged Posted May 23, 2018 Share #320 Posted May 23, 2018 Look at the lower part of the flag: Alarm! Flare! Immediate return to Wetzlar! On the more serious side: I have seen flare, but you have to work (hard) to get the lens flaring. I do not even think of how the Nikon 12-24mm f2.8G or the Sigma 18mm f1.8 ART would handle such a harsh light condition... Yes, the 16-35 is very, very flare resistant! From the public celebration of the national day in Norway, 17th May, by-the-way. SL +16-35@17mm. Welcome, dear visitor!
