mikbau Posted March 21, 2018 Share #1  Posted March 21, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello all  I just received my Leica CL - I've shot Nikon for about 25 years, and more recently, the Fuji Xpro1/Xpro2. This is my first entry in to the Leica world. Before my battery died, I did a few settings changes and test shots - aside from some dust on the sensor that I had to dispense with, it all went smoothly - but I have two quick questions:  1) I had the "image stabilization activated" icon appear after a shot - I"m not shooting video and I don't have a lens that supports it (currently a Voightlander 35mm with the M to L adaptor) - has anyone else experienced this? Any idea why it's appearing?  2) Is anyone out there compiling a list of Non-Leica M mount lenses and the corresponding Leica Lens profiles that are the closest match?  thanks in advance for your responses, Michael

jaapv Posted March 21, 2018 Share #2 Â Posted March 21, 2018 A. Image stabilsation is only applicable to O.I.S SL lenses. It is a (harmless) bug that it is not greyed out. B Lens profiles mainly apply to distortion and to a certain extent vignetting. Such a list is, in general, only interesting to get the focal length in EXIF. Not really worth the trouble. scott kirkpatrick Posted March 21, 2018 Share #3  Posted March 21, 2018 1) I think that is harmless. It only turns stabilization on or off in Leica lenses with optical stabilization. There is no software stabilization for video in Leica's codecs, as far as anyone can tell.  2) for a Voightlander 21, 35, or 50, just claim it is the Leica Pre-Asph of the same focal length. There may be other opinions, and you can experiment. mikbau Posted March 21, 2018 Author Share #4  Posted March 21, 2018 Thanks for the replies. I've been reading this form for quite a while in anticipation of getting my CL  Makes sense on the bug - just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything  As for the lens profiles, I guess I was just looking to reduce distortion out of the camera to not have to fiddle in LR. I'll play with the similar Pre-ASPH Leica settings  Michael

 You may find some good ideas here: https://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-news/leica-lens-codes/ FWIW i code the following lenses this way: - Summicron-C 40/2 as Summicron-M 35/2 # 11310/11311 - CV 15/4.5 v2 as Tri-Elmar-M 16-18-21/4 # 11626 @ 16mm - CV 21/4 as Elmarit-M 21/2.8 pre-asph # 11134 - ZM 35/2.8 as Summarit-M 35/2.5 # 11643 - ZM 50/1.5 as Summilux-M 50/1.4 # 11868/11856/11114

I'll play with the similar Pre-ASPH Leica settings  Michael Distortion is lens-specific. I don't think that any distortion correction from one lens can be transferred to another. Having said that, lens distortion is only an issue in very specific cases and best corrected in postprocessing as far as possible IMO.
scott kirkpatrick Posted March 22, 2018 Share #7  Posted March 22, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) On distortion -- I don't think you will encounter much with M-type lenses. It is more of an issue with recent "designed for digital" lenses which trade off at their wider end significant barrel distortion and a little lateral chromatic aberration (which can be corrected in software or in in-camera jpeg processing) for greater control of the other aberrations and overall sharpness, as well as smaller size and lower price. The TL lenses do this, but they are recognized by the TL/CL/SL and those corrections will be applied for you.

lct Posted April 2, 2018 Share #9 Â Posted April 2, 2018 (edited) What is the normal cause of 'clipping'. i must have touched or altered something because it now appears in the screen on review. Â Clipping is caused by overexposure. To remove clipping: Press the center button. To disable clipping: Menu (page 4) > Play Mode Setup > Clipping: Off.
