fotografr Posted March 3, 2018 Share #1  Posted March 3, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) A male Northern Shoveler is visiting our lake on its migration north. It is so named because of the large bill that is wide at the end for scooping up food. I'm told they have the nickname, "Hollywood," because of their showy appearance.  V114 Welcome, dear visitor! albert Posted March 3, 2018 Share #2 Â Posted March 3, 2018 Duck hunting was all the rage in South Dakota while I was growing up in the late fifties and early sixties. We called Shovelers spoonies or spoonbills and considered them unfit for human consumption. Probably another prejudice without merit. Your photograph is great and they are a beautiful duck.

North / Northwest Posted March 4, 2018 Share #5 Â Posted March 4, 2018 Nice image Brent. Most duck hunters pass on shooting these guys. That's good news for the Shoveler. This image is clear to the point that the reflection is even sharp. Thank you for listing the camera used.
stuny Posted March 5, 2018 Share #6 Â Posted March 5, 2018 Beautiful, and much prettier than the southern shovelers we saw in Chile last month.
