Bill W Posted March 8, 2018 Share #2 Posted March 8, 2018 I would say that the guy on back is not happy about being photographed.
MarkP Posted March 8, 2018 Share #3 Posted March 8, 2018 I would say the guy on the back is not happy holding the goats and would rather be driving.
stuny Posted March 8, 2018 Share #4 Posted March 8, 2018 Terrific! In my experience Indians seem to be more willing to be photographed than anywhere else on Earth we've been.
newnew Posted March 8, 2018 Share #5 Posted March 8, 2018 These days, with all the social media abuse, it is difficult to photograph a really willing subject just on the street.
Fridtjof Posted March 8, 2018 Author Share #6 Posted March 8, 2018 He certainly looks uncomfortable, but my interpretation is that having two adult goats on your lap is at best uncomfortable. It's not common in India for people to object to being photographed. Often they come up to you and actively request it (not in this case obviously). In fact for a photographer who is uncomfortable or unfamiliar with street/portraits/environmental portraits (such as me), India seems the perfect introduction to those genres. You need to have respect of course, but many Indian people have a deep dignity and make great subjects. And as I often say, if India doesn't make you think, you need a brain transplant. This photo was a classic example of "spray and pray". The driver anticipated the scene and slowed down, and I shot 9 frames in under 2 seconds (M10, ISO3200). Most were rejects of course, but this one was OK. The lens was a MATE (at 35mm in this case) which was ideal for the dusty environment. Indians are so keen on photography that the camera and its selfie-friendliness is a deal breaker for a lot of Indians when they are shopping for a smart phone. There must be hundreds of selfies circulating in India now with me as the token Westerner. John.
