Bill W Posted February 22, 2018 Share #2 Â Posted February 22, 2018 Beautiful. Bees this busy rarely try to sting you. But try to mess with their hive and they will attack in force....!!!

North / Northwest Posted February 23, 2018 Share #4 Â Posted February 23, 2018 Good image Stuart. Must say I'm sorry to see Easter Island has this terrible weed.
david strachan Posted February 24, 2018 Share #5 Â Posted February 24, 2018 (edited) Is that the Scotch Thistle? It's pretty (nasty)...we have a lot here. Â As for bees, they are very placid hunter gatherers in Australia. On Kangaroo Island the very gentle Ligurian bee is still pure, and exported around the world...i know you've been there Stuart, so would be aware. Â I love bees...they are hugely abuzz on our flowering cumquat, making fruit for our future marmalade. Â Oh, by the way a v nice picture...difficult little buggers to photograph. Â Is that with your new Q? Â regards... Edited February 24, 2018 by david strachan
stuny Posted February 24, 2018 Author Share #6  Posted February 24, 2018 Bill - Thank you. I didn't see all that many but its seed dispersal method will no doubt greatly increase its impact. On the mainland at an immense vineyard we stayed at a few day later they had much larger thistles, in much greater abundance.  David - Thank you. I have no idea what kind of thistle it is, and yes, the photo is with my new Q. North / Northwest Posted February 25, 2018 Share #7 Â Posted February 25, 2018 Advertisement (gone after registration) Stuart, Â Canada Thistle is a real problem in my area. I spray in the spring and fall to control it. I also cut my pastures before the seed heads are mature. Mowing helps but the plant just grows back as a shorter version. The problem is others do not care to manage the weed. As a result the seeds are carried in the wind to reinfect my land. Â Your image makes the weed look much nicer than it is. Now that's good photography.
