on the m240 I was often disappointed with this lens - probably due to the LR5 software I used,  I guess. But with the LRc it got rehabilitated 🥰

and now look how this lens performs, on the M9M: I just love the soft glow of the background.

& on the Lumix S5 I see a background, that looks like a vintage Summar lens (that some say is the Ur-Summicron):

No photos with it yet, but I recently bought a lovely condition v5 to use on my M10M for a slightly lower contrast and gentler rendering than i’ve achieved with my APO Lanthar and M 50 APO. I used to own the v5 a numbers of years ago, so I’m familiar with its characteristics and missed its less harsh rendering, for portraits especially.

My friend Jyotima, an actress living in Mumbai.  Leica M10/50 Summicron V5.  Chennai India, Jan 2020.  Natural window light.  Hard to imagine a lens could do any better than this!

Full resolution crop.  Incredible detail in those beautiful eyes.  I think these were both shot at F4.0, maybe F2.8.  Rangefinder focused.

Crisper on my monitor -- I think it got downsampled for posting.

I recently returned to the Summicron v5 by buying a used, but very recently produced copy (I sold my original copy, dated c 2002, due to increasing veiling flare and very heavy field curvature). I'm wondering if the lens coating has changed over the last 2 decades, I thought my old c 2002 copy was more "brown" in terms of the coating on the lens elements, but this recently produced copy has the modern "blue / purple" glow to it.  But that's a good thing, it seems, given this newer v5 has zero tendency to flare, but still has the gentler Mandler characteristic to it.  I'd most recently been using the Voigtlander 35 and 50 APO Lanthars, but they're quite "strong" at times in terms of contrast and acuity with my M10 Monochrom, and I was after something a little gentler in terms of contrast and overall rendering, which I believe I've found with the v5.   First shots below with this combo, just snapshots around the local park. I don't have a cat / dog, so you missed out on that type of tests!

Another one with my v5 that I recently went back to. On the M10 Monochrom again for a quick snapshot to check all working to my liking.
