I just noticed that he has an original Thambar for sale at £2250 (!) Quote Leitz 9cm f2.2 Thambar + centre filter, hood, caps & custom-made, close copy of original box. Condition 3-4/E (restored, haze). c.1938 PS - I have no connection with Peter other than being a satisfied customer. That's a great price, and the lens looks pretty clean, possibly repainted. But the issue is haze, as mentioned on this copy. It can't be completely removed. Guess it's just an age thing. They also suffer from separation and air bubbles, with the former being more concerning. I had 3 copies in a short period of time and got rid of them for these reasons. The price looks fair providing there are no issues with the lens and you can live with any haze problems.I finished up buying a new one as at the time some of the older ones where at silly money.On an M9 I find a 1.25 magnifier is very useful.The problem for myself was if I bought a 80 year old lens and finished up trading it a couple of times to get a better one, it would just put the cost up, eventually I thought bugger it and bought new.On reflection it was the best outcome for me and my local Leica dealer in Manchester who is always brilliant.
