Dr. G Posted November 9, 2017 Share #1 Posted November 9, 2017 Advertisement (gone after registration) With my DSLR cameras I usually like to mount one side of my strap to my tripod mount so I don't have the strap against my shooting hand. I also prefer to hang my camera more toward my back than directly on my side. Being that the bottom plate on the M10 is removable, is this a bad idea? I think it would be too much stress on the bottom plate with the weight of the camera hanging. I wouldn't do it.
jdlaing Posted November 9, 2017 Share #3 Posted November 9, 2017 Bad idea on an M body.
Luke_Miller Posted November 10, 2017 Share #4 Posted November 10, 2017 I wouldn't do it with an M8 or M9, but in the M-240 and following models the tripod mount is in the body rather than the bottom plate.
adan Posted November 10, 2017 Share #5 Posted November 10, 2017 Correct - the M10 baseplate just has a hole to access the tripod mount, that is firmly installed in the camera itself. https://leicarumors.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/02/Leica-M10-bottom-plate-tripod-mount.jpg Now, perhaps some enterprising machinist could come up with an "M5" grip, with three strap lugs, so that the camera can be suspended either from both sides, OR hang vertically from the viewfinder end. http://japancamerahunter.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/top-1.jpg
