Camera strap mount question

With my DSLR cameras I usually like to mount one side of my strap to my tripod mount so I don't have the strap against my shooting hand.  I also prefer to hang my camera more toward my back than directly on my side.  Being that the bottom plate on the M10 is removable, is this a bad idea?

I think it would be too much stress on the bottom plate with the weight of the camera hanging. I wouldn't do it.

Correct - the M10 baseplate just has a hole to access the tripod mount, that is firmly installed in the camera itself.

Now, perhaps some enterprising machinist could come up with an "M5" grip, with three strap lugs, so that the camera can be suspended either from both sides, OR hang vertically from the viewfinder end.
