What 2 lenses for M10 if I also have the Q?

I was able to pick up a new M10 in silver today.  I recently purchased the Q to replace my RX1R ii.  I liked the 35mm of the RX1R ii but sometimes wished I had a little more length on the lens. The 28mm of the Q is nice and wide and it's a great grab and go camera.

I'm thinking for the M10 that the Summilux-M 50 f/1.4 ASPH would be a good lens to complement the Q, but was wondering if I should go with a 90mm as well.

The other option I'm thinking about is using the 35mm Summilux-M f/1.4 ASPH because I'm used to shooting 35mm from THE Sony and adding 75mm APO Summicron-M f/2 ASPH.

Any thoughts?

My choice...they are the nice combo for beginner and more, much more later.

Summilux-M 1.4/35mm asph. and Apo-Summicron-M 2/75 asph. (as I suggested in your other post) for it's close focus to 70cm.

Or to begin with SOMNI/DR if you like Classic-Summicron 50mm adventure :p .

From a pure focal length flexibility standpoint, adding a 50 and 90 along side the 28 likely makes the most sense. But for me, selecting Leica glass is as much about rendering as it is about focal length. The 75 APO, for example, seems to be a lens that engenders love, hate or even indifference depending on ones sensibilities.  I'd suggest you spend some time rummaging around the photos on these pages and around the internet and try to decide what glass best suits your style and taste. If you're after the sharpest of razor blades, then likely you find any of the lenses you mention utterly satisfying. But there are numerous equally credible  alternatives stretching back decades as well as CV and Zeiss offerings that are just as worthy of consideration.  Half the joy and pain of M system ownership is figuring out which lenses turn out to be short term employees as opposed to those that wind up being lifelong partners.

28/35,  50,  90 are classic combo for good reason.  Buy what you can afford and are willing to carry keeping in mind a lens like the 90 APO weights double in the afternoon or after after the first 5 miles .  90 tele elmarit from the 1980`s and 50 Summicron V3 is the economical choice and I used them for years or Summarit line which I never owned.  mountain climbers cut the handles off tooth brushes to save weight.

Unlimited funds can buy a 50 APO & 90 APO .

CV and Zeiss If you will to jump brands.  My experience has not been great.

With respect to the 75 vs 90; how well versed are you at focusing a Range Finder (no ttl, no AF) at those focal lengths; 90mm takes some sharp eyes and very good technique in uncontrolled scenarios.    Both the 75lux and 90apo produce wonderful renderings and are wonderful choices.  Since you have the 28 already, I'd go with the 50/90.   You will be getting up close and personal with the 28 and will probably look for a bit more reach then 35 from there.   I think 75 is a bit too close to 50 and would lean toward the 90apo.  With all that said, I love the 35mm FLE on my M10, but then again I don't shoot a 28.   For what it's worth, I shoot 35/50/90 with my M10.

Marc, you're in my neck of the woods.  How versed am I with a rangefinder?  I'm not, which is why this jump is making me both excited and nervous.  The Q is on order as I returned the Sony RX1R ii because it had some issues when I needed a fully automatic camera.  I have my RX10 iv which is a great all around performer, but nowhere near the level of the Q or the M10, of course.  I was thinking of returning the RX10, and traveling with just the Q and M10.  Now I'm starting to think that maybe I should keep the  RX10, change the order for the Q to a 21mm and get the 35 and 70.  That would give me a whole range of good focal lengths with the M10 and the ability to grab the RX10 when I need a quick shot, especially when it can zoom to 600mm at f4.

I was pretty comfortable with the 35mm focal length of the RX1R ii, but sometimes wanted a little more reach which is why I'm also considering the 50.  I do a lot of car photography and sometimes the 35 makes getting certain angles difficult. I have some links in the other thread I started to some of my images, which were all taken with the RX1R II.  I don't know how to embed photos.

Buy one lens...35 or 50.... and shoot a lot, zoom with your feet, and remember to use your frame lever to consider alternate framings.

And make sure from the outset that your eyes are properly corrected for the 2m virtual focus patch, as well as for any astigmatism. You'll recognize soon enough if you bond with the RF experience. Some do, some don't. Don't rush to a second lens until you figure that out and shoot enough to determine your next lens direction.... focal length and other characteristics.

Meanwhile, read the forum FAQ to learn things we all go through, with some helpful tips...,

Had you not already bought the M10, I would have suggested getting an earlier M with frame lever to gauge your M relationship, but at least you'll be starting with the best built digital M, with the best VF.

I think the Q is an excellent camera; especially what's packed into it for $500 less than the cost of a new 35 FLE.   I sold my M240P and 35FLE about a year ago, put a few bucks in the bank and purchased a Q.  Simply put, I just couldn't get what I wanted out of the Q and think 28mm is just not for me right now.  So, I sold my Q, took that money out of the bank and purchased the M10 and 35fle.  Now I'm back in my happy place and I'm sure just made your decision even more hair pulling.   Since you've never shot a RF; I'd suggest starting with one lens 35 or 50 depending what you do with the Q.  If you cancel the Q, I'd go M10 and 35FLE 1.4 since you seem to like and are comfortable with the 35mm focal length.   Once you are comfortable using a single lens, and happy with your results, then and only then would I add another.  I'd stay away from anything wider then 28mm for the M10 at the start as the RF does not go wider.   To use a 21mm you would need to either use Live View, the VisoFlex EVF or a 21mm OVF or do what some others do and just wing it. What neck of the woods do you live in?

Gotcha...you are close; if you ever want to meet up and shoot, give me a shout.   Take a look at the link Jeff posted, specifically the one which describes the 3 different ways to obtain focus with a RF.  I'd also read up on "zone focusing" techniques if you are not familiar with zone focusing and as they say, perfect practice makes perfect.

The Summilux 50asph to me is the best lens I ever owned. I like the 50mm perspective and find it a very versatile lens that is easy to focus on my M10.

I also have a Summarit 90 2.5 which I occasionally use, but the 28 Elmarit and 50 Lux are my to go lenses.

When I travel, I use the M10 during the day for sightseeing and the Q at night because I'm usually too drunk to focus properly with a rangefinder lol. Other than that though, I rarely carry them together.

I have the 21 SEM, 35 FLE, 50 LUX, and 90 ELMARIT for lenses btw.

I have a lot if cameras and lenses, but I use very often the combo Q and M19 with 50apo snd 90AA. 28/50/90 is perfect.

I really like the look of the 50 apo.  I'm not sure the f2 is the best choice for me, though.  Not for the depth of field, but rather because I enjoy doing a fair amount of low light shooting.  I don't think I need to move to the noctilux, but I tend to like capturing the ambiance of dimly lit rooms.
