M10 -what tripods do you use?

How are you getting on with this tripod? I just got the Befree Al model, but it seems almost too lightweight.

Before M10, I was using gripped D750 with 24-70/f2.8 lens and this tripod. With that due to the setup (front heavy), the ball head wasn’t good and one need to tighten really well but since the system was heavy, it was stable enough. I have upgraded the plate to an ArcaSwiss plate, something I have bought from Amazon. With M10, I haven’t tried in a windy environment but that will require a heavy tripod which is against the purpose of carbon tripod. As a tripod, it is a really good quality. It would be nice if the center column has a hook to hand a bag but not a deal breaker.

In my Nikon period I used heavy Gitzo 5 tripods. Those are sold and left is a Gitzo 3 with RRS top. Besides the Gitzo I have a small Leica table tripod and an even smaller Novoflex mini table tripod, when travelling with a backpack.

I agree, for the M system this tripod seems almost perfect, but I too miss the hook. Its not a deal breaker as I will only very rarely leave the tripod with mounted camera and lens alone.

@fatihayoglu I ended up getting the befree live model. I’ll let you know how I get on. It was a special deal that i couldn’t resist.

Ok so the Befree live model is a lot better than the standard one.

The head is a little bigger and on my 'lux, almost impossible to mount, without the handgrip - BUT... the feet are angled and bigger AND there is a hook.

If anyone is on the market for a travel tripod, I'd recommend the Live version £122 from Amazon UK + a basic Manfrotto ballhead.

Recently bought a m10r, sort of a holy grail camera for me after 20 years of nikons, hasselblads, rolleiflex, etc.

Wanted to get a gitzo for the camera and happened upon this thread. Have owned larger gitzos in the past but am of the opinion that the best tripod is the one you're willing to carry with you.

Looking at the 0- vs 1- series Traveler and note individuals on this thread own both.

The 0 series has a lot of appeal due to small size. Curious if any 0-series owners wish they had a bit more height or stability? (I'm 5'10"), ie wish they had bought the 1-series?

The 1 series looks like a bit longer, bigger - height seems to be more comfortable but it clearly looks like more tripod to lug around. Any 1-series owners wish they had bought the 0 series?

Finally, I presume a RRS BH-30 will fit on the 0 series just fine?

I have the 0-series and I'm very happy with it for its size. I admit I don't often use it for still photography - I bought it for use with a M240 for travel for night sky shots. It easily fits in most cabin bags, backpacks etc, and I have no regrets. Since then it has been mainly used for static video with my Sigma fp. I have a bigger tripod which is used mainly for large format stuff (FLM CP30 M4ii).

Tripod decisions depend on when and how you want to use them - I like the little Nikon table top tripod I bought decades ago (pretty ubiquitous - not sure who made them, but you could get them with just about any brand name); I then bought a Manfoto aluminium thing, and used it a lot - it’s a bit large and cumbersome; most recently, I bought a RRS TQC-14 and an Arca Swiss D4 Classic head.  Despite the size and weight of the head, this set up gets the most use.  

For tramping and things, I use Novoflex tramping poles, with one of their heads.

The thing is - what do you use it for?  I tend to use mine with either my SL or M10-D, with the Fotos App.  That way, I can set up the camera, level, with the view I want, and then control the camera with my phone, whether astro, a nice landscape or selfie.  I would say - don’t skimp on the head.

I still have both  0 & 1 series Gitzos. Either work well but I prefer the 1 series with an Arca ('upside down style head) and the 0 series with the RRS25 head for absolute carriability. Neither are really viable in windy conditions though so I do still use a 5 series if needed.

I use the same tripod. Remarkably sturdy for its size and weight. 
Ideally I'd wanted a slightly larger ballhead. Tried another Gitzo one recommended by the dealer which much better but it did't fit between the folded legs so went back to the original one.
It did annoy me that I had to buy the hook for the centre column as an accessory but worthwhile.
Very comfortable and light to carry with it's shoulder strap.
Therefore gets used a lot.
Overall very happy with it.

Gitzo GT1545T tripod with a Novoflex MagicBall 50 Ballhead. 

This setup has a maximum load bearing capability of 15.40 pounds.  That's more than enough for M and Q cameras which are about all I shoot with these days.  It makes a nice small/light set for traveling by air, if we ever get back to normal in that regard.

Before my M10, I owned a Leitz tabletop tripod with ball head. I sold it but later decided to replace it with less expensive but sturdy tabletops with Pentax, Polaroid, and Minolta brand names.

In this photo, the tripod and ball head of the Polaroid have been separated.

The Pentax tripod and the ball head are connected and there is a third-party Arca Swiss clamp attached to the ball head.

I usually shoot my M10 hand held but I find these tabletop tripods very useful when I vacation travel.

Folded and extended size, weight, stability and the ballhead.  Unfortunately, one tripod can't be universal.  I like the FLM ballheads, they are tricky but once learned are extremely stable for their size and weight but more importantly it is easy to make those small incremental moves that are so difficult with other heads.

For me, a Leica Table Tripod with the long ball head is perfect. It's compact and works well in many situations (tables, against walls and trees, supported on chest etc.). the long ball head is easy to hold.
