Being a novice to this forum I hope that you shall not feel that I bother you with truisms but I cannot find out the difference between a Leica  UVa filter and a Leica UVa II filter. Would someone please enlighten me?

Good question indeed. Leica says that "UVa II" filters have an "additional thread" so that they "can also be used in combination with other filters" (link below) but mere "UVa" Leica filters did have such an additional -in fact internal- thread in the past. I suspect Leica may have sold some "UVa" filters sans internal thread to compete with B+W and other affordable makers but i have no evidence to support that.

Thank you.

I must have searched in a wrong way on the Leica website. Enlightened by your kind answers I now understand that all my UVa filters are from the second generation since I am able to screw the new color filters into them. Of course I am aware of the risk of flare and reflections which can be reduced by letting the color filter be the only one in front of the lens if use the 246.

Sorry, but you are not the only one who cannot find the differences - only the price... Even though the UVa II seems to be newer it is a little bit less expensive: 125€ for the UVa and 110 for the UVa II.

Which is rather overpriced seeing that they are made by Schott and the same quality or even slightly inferior to B&W or Heliopan.

The problem is that neither B+W nor Heliopan offer any silver versions - I know, I know  reflections and all. Though if one has a silver lens, a black filter ...  The only chance is to conceal it with the hood.
