adaptor to use Leica M lenses on Sony A7

I use the Novoflex adapter, which works perfect.

However, not all M lenses work on the Sony A7 series, especially the wide angle and ultra wide angle lenses. The M also renders differently from the A7 series. This being said, most people prefer the M camera for M lenses, which makes sense.

There have been numerous threads on this topic, but there is a quite recent thread in the German section. It is up to date (there have been new lenses and new versions of old lenses showing up in the meantime, compared to the first threads on this topic). Even if you do not speak German, you can figure out the lenses, which just work fine on the A7 series:

Be sure to take the A7II and buy any cheap adapter. All are sufficient to go your first steps. Try out your M-lenses, even the wideangles. The Tri-Elmar 28-35-50 works absolutely fine, all focal lengths above too.

I use the Voigtlander VM adapter II (non-close focusing), and also a Fotodiox L/M - NEX. The Voigtlander is better made and fits tighter, but both work acceptably with normal lenses. On the A7 the edges of the image do smear more with wider lenses, but the center area stays sharp. Yet I've enjoyed using it with a Nokton 35 1.4, where it is a nice small package, and with EVF focusing the Nokton focus shift isn't an issue. I find by 90mm the edges hold up well, and again like the size and results with a 90 Summarit. Heavy lenses are more secure with the Voigtlander.

I've thought of getting the Kolari sensor modification to help the edges, but I use it mainly with SLR lenses where the edges are fine anyway.

I had an A7R and was going to sell it, but gave it to my son as he uses a Bessa with M lenses. The Novoflex is the best adapter, the Metabones doesn't even clip on properly. I used it a lot with a refurbished 90 Tele-Elmarit, works a treat.

I bought him a Zeiss 50/f2 and he's gone to New York today and taken my Voightlander 15/f4.5 Mk3. Curious to see if the latter images OK.

I use M and LTM mount lenses exclusively on my A7 and have enjoyed great success with them. I use the Voigtlander Close Focus adapter, which really helps with the limitations of MFD on the LTM lenses. I use a cheap adapter for the LTM to M and they work just fine too.
