If you by this mean that we who ordered the MATE via the 30% voucher should get one, this is no longer the case.

Hmm, curious. Guy thinks I might get a WATE after all, rather than just being an effective stalling tactic? Oh-oh. Hopefully you are right, Carl.

I ordered the Wate+Frankenfinder this week. Looking forward to get it.

Owning quit some lenses my personal ranking is:

Very usefull, use it a lot and love it:

1. 28/2.0

2. Trielmar 28-35-50

3. 50/1.4asph

4. 90macro

usefull, but not used that much:

21/2.8asph, 24/2.8asph, 90/2.8, 75/1.4, 15CV

not really usefull for me: (I just dont manage f1.0)

Noctilux

Not used because they dont focus 100% perfect on my M8:

35/1.4asph, 135/3.4, 50/2.8

I have to say that every in between 28-50mm for me gives the most natural looking images. The images look in a way the same as I have seen the scene with my eyes.

28 for more dynamic scenes, and 50 for a little more concentrating on one person or one subject.

Anybody who does not own it yet I would recommend the 28/2.0asph.

Cheers, Tom

Carsten,

Here is that start of the text in the letter I received (I've removed some contact details):

To all customers who ordered a lens Tri-Elmar-M 1:4/28-35-50mm ASPH. (11625)

19/06/2007 / M-Lens-Order

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

much to our regret we have to inform you that the lens Tri-Elmar-M 1:4/28-35-50mm ASPH. that you have ordered is no more available. A successor is not planned.

We are very sorry that we have to take this action. It goes without saying that you are free to choose a different lens from the enclosed list.

It doesn't get any plainer than this. Unless someone has gone back on this or decided that some of us get one and others don't I can't see how you should get one.

I am double checking but that sounds like a normal order but just shot off a e-mail to confirm again one way or another. Should have a answer soon

Do you hear from Leica when you send in your order, or just when you find the lens on your doorstep? I sent mine in with the M8 when I sent it for repair on May 25th, and so far I have heard nothing from them.

In case its helpful (for those debating 35 mm lenses), I'm going to try to publish the 35 mm lens review tonight.

Cheers,

Sean

Sean,

Did you publish as you say above, because when i log in i can see no link to the report?

Cheers

Eric

Just recieved my e-mail on the MATE and i quote

There are no more 28-35-50mm lenses to come. Remedy customers have been informed that this lens is unfortunately no longer available and they can chose another lens. This order will then be treated with priority.

Sorry if i had this wrong , many things were discussed and my memory served me wrong.

I'm not sure that I understand your question, can you explain further?

Cheers,

Sean

Look at the 21mm article, the OOF setion is not yet there. However, I am FAR more curious as to how your white wall tests would come out with FW 1.102 as this was written with an older FW version. :p It would be good to have the FW used for the review posted with the date at the top of each article as this is a moving target, and changed as each one is updated. The temporal context is rather important these days.

With FW 1.102 it seems that vignette removal and the UV/IR filter fix are mutually exclsuive - just noticed this on your 35mm tests, you may have covered this before. Any comments on this from those who know more about what is actually in the FW.

BTW, I think Leica sent you the wrong lens shade with the 35/1.4, looks like you got the one used for the 28/2.0 or older 28/2.8. Maybe that is why it is so bloody big.

Well, that didn't take long. Today, July 2, I got an email from Leica apologising that the TE is not available, and is not planned to be in the future either, offering me a D-Lux3 for 510 Euro as an apology, and sending the new list, missing the TE, 28/2.8 ASPH and 75/1.4. My strategy saved me all of 2 days, and now they promise priority delivery :)

I will have to decide soon. I am kinda of thinking about the following 35/1.4A, 50/1, 75/2A, 90/2A, 135/3.4A. The last two I can probably find second-hand for a reasonable price, so I will probably restrict my query to the first three. I know the pros and cons here. The 35 is the one I would most like to have, but also a lens I can find second-hand, and also the one most likely to show up with "unfixable" problems. The Noct is really rather special, and I am only considering it because if I don't buy it now, it will cost close to 5000 the next time I look, and I imagine that the current second-hand price of about 2000 Euro will not hold long once the ones sold at the old prices run out. The 75/2 is perfect, but I already love my 75 Lux, so it is optional.

Thoughts? I will probably ask Leica about the length of the waiting list for these lenses and see what they say.

What are normal second-hand prices for these lenses, in as-good-as-new condition?

I still find it really funny that the list does not include the 28/2.8 ASPH ( the newest lens) but that Leica USA says that it is not being canceled. Maybe they don't make enough on it to offer it at a 30% discount.

If I'd qualified for the 30% off deal I probably would of gotten a Noct.

I ordered the last minute the Noctilux for myself. My second voucher looks like i could not use since i bought it from someone else and did not have a reciept. i guess if i worked it before hand it may have been fine but guessing what the voucher says i probably would have had issues. Oh well , just as well don't have money for 2 lenses and i need two more lenses like i need a hole in my head

Hi Tom,

Once I finish the 35s article and the one on the 85/90s, I'll go back and start filling in/updating the others. There are logistics here (esp. with lens loans) that needn't be discussed here but which have a large effect on what can get done when. Then there's just the larger issue of time - RR is one of the many things I need to work on each day.

The FW version is mentioned in all of the recent articles.

Not clear on your FW 1.102 question.

Yes, they sent the wrong shade with the first copy. The second copy has the correct shade. I'll be revising the comments on visibility, etc. based on the second copy.

Let's continue any other discussion about this on the 35 mm lens review thread so that this one doesn't get side-tracked.

Cheers,

Sean

Jaap, which lens are you talking about? With "these lenses" I meant: 35 Lux ASPH, 50 Noct, 75 Cron ASPH, Apo-90 Cron ASPH :)

I may have confused threads, I thought is was about the discontinued TE.

Actually It seems that most good lenses from the group you mention are in the 1500-2000 range, with the Noctilux a bit more.

Oh my!, priority on a second choice lens :p , Serves you right Carsten, LOL

It might be worth telling them your not in any hurry, to place you down the bottom of the list. I'm sure they'd only be too delighted given the backlog. It may even help them with an irate customer. Well you've nothing to loose by asking;) .

As for your dilemma, the 35 Lux A is a bit of a waste given you already have the 28 & 35 Summicrons and the 50 Lux A. The 75 is also a bit of a waste seeing as you love the 75 Lux. I know you like the look of the 75 Lux and I don't know what the Summicron will offer over the Lux stopped down?.

Your right about the 90 & 135 being better value elsewhere, and that leaves the Nocti which your not mad about and you have the 50 Lux anyway.

Hard to advise as you seem to have them all covered, 35 if you feel you want extra speed , otherwise the nocti for playing with and better return if it does not suit. otherwise keep your hand in your pocket and later book a nice holiday and go off shooting with your already fine lineup of lenses.:)

I will certainly tell them that I am in no hurry, and in fact, that I am in an anti-hurry and every time they could conceivably bump me, they should :)

If I got the 35 Lux I would probably sell the cron... I still have to think about that one. I could probably also find a perfect copy of the 35 Lux at about the same price as the deal, so I am not in a hurry there. The 75 Cron... it interests me, I must admit. It is kinda the anti-Lux, in that it is razorsharp and very compact. I am not sure. I think I will opt for the Noctilux, which has the advantage that I can certainly recoup my money if I hate it, and I won't even now be able to find an as-new latest model Noctilux for that price, I don't think, and certainly not with warranty.
